Lost For Words: A Novel

Chapter 14: The Deal Gone Awry

The next day started off perfectly as I woke up to the beautiful face of Kate lying beside me in deep sleep. We didn’t have sex the night before because I wanted the love between Kate and me to bake in the oven for a little while before taking a bite.

I quietly removed myself from under the covers and sat on the edge of the bed exposing my bareback to the air condition of the suite. My neck had a slight ache but after a couple of seconds of rubbing the ache simmered down. It was at that moment that I finally got a good look at the suite we were in. Besides the giant flat-screen television at the front of the bed, everything was pretty small. But the design and positioning of the small furnishings were neat, to say the least. Some heavyset, deep-green curtains that blocked off a window drew my curiosity, causing me to get up and pull it exposing the scenery which in itself caused my eyes to widen with awe. Exposed was the wide dark blue, open sea and light blue sky in full view from through the glass window.

“Wow,” I said.

“What?” Kate asked.

Her voice caught me a bit off guard as I quickly turned to face her and said, “It’s the view from here. It’s amazing.”

Kate got up and walked to stand beside me with the bed sheet still wrapped around her body. She wasn’t naked but all she wore was a white tee over her bare skin and the air condition was a bit cold causing her nipples to protrude almost too visibly. She looked out the window and after a couple of seconds she said, “It is amazing.”

“You know what else is amazing?” I asked, turning to face her.

“What?”

“You.”

“Stop it,” she blushed.

“You know what else is amazing?” I asked after a glimpse of her long slender legs within the sheet she had over her.

She chuckled then said, “What?”

“I want you to guess. It’s something that we haven’t done in a while but something we did already.”

“Something we haven’t done in a while but something we did already. Hmmmm,” Kate repeated looking up in the air as though the answers were on the ceiling. “I think I know the answer but you’re going to have to work a lot harder this time. Last time, I gave it up too easily and rightly so since that was before that incident outside Decoir.”

“That’s fair.”

“Did you ever, you know, do it again after?” Kate asked, referring to the time we had sex back in her house.

The answer was yes because I did have sex with Samantha but I wasn’t about to admit that to Kate. “No. How about you? Did you, you know, do it again after?”

Kate remained silent for a while then said, with her head down, “No.”

“Not even with Tom?”

“Can we not bring up the past?” Kate said, obviously annoyed with the question.

“You started it,” I said, lightheartedly.

“Yeah I did but now I’m ending it!” She said then turned and walked away from the window ruining the romance of the whole situation.

“Where are you going?”

“To take a shower.”

I sighed then turned back to the window to admire the scenery but in the solitude, I heard my cell phone vibrating in my bag. I had the urge to answer it but I fought off the urge and just let it ring. I wasn’t ready to talk to whoever was on the phone. I just maintained my posture in front of the window.
