Lost For Words: A Novel

I knocked on the door.

“Come in, it’s open!” Kate shouted from afar.

I opened the door slowly, my senses alert in case of any danger. There was a lingering smell of burning oil and fried chicken in the air accompanied by a faint sizzling sound.

“Kate?”

“I’m in the kitchen!” She shouted.

I followed her voice into the kitchen and I met her stirring away at a pot with the pot spoon in one hand and a cookbook in the other. The kitchen was a complete mess but it smelt great.

“It smells really good in here. What are you cooking?” I asked.

“A rice and fried chicken bonanza or whatever you call it. You want some?”

“I would love some.”

“It should be ready in a while.” She stopped stirring and then focused her attention on me sitting back on the kitchen counter. I became slightly distracted by her long slender legs that in themselves seemed to flirt with me. The thing about females is that sometimes their bodies alone can do all the flirting while they sit back on a counter and do absolutely nothing.

“What?” She asked after noticing my eyes straying to her legs.

“I just can’t get over how beautiful you are. I know we only-“

“Time is irrelevant,” Kate interrupted abruptly.

“What?”

“I know what you were going to say. You were going to say that you know that we only just met and you have yet to delve deeper into my soul unlocking the fabric of my inner self but as shallow as it may sound you still think that I’m the most beautiful woman in the world.” She got closer to me and her voice got softer. “And then I respond by saying, time is irrelevant.”

“Damn, you’re good.”

“We’re writers remember? We read each other’s minds.”

“Then what am I thinking now?” I flirted back, her arms now over my neck and mine at her side like we were getting ready to dance

“You’re thinking that we should go upstairs to my room and cast our garments aside in the wake of our undying love…..”

“And physically bound it under the covers as we lie with each other…..”

“Baring all…..” Kate said.

“Becoming one,” I said.

“Forever.”

I made a calculated pause and then said, “Forever.”

Our lips met. I placed my thumb over her cheeks while the rest of my fingers were tucked away neatly in her hair. Our kiss lasted forever because even as we parted, I could still feel her supple lips and her tender nose gently pressing against mine. My heart raced and my senses became numb to anything but Kate pressing closer and closer into me and her kiss deepening, creating a lasting imprint on my mind and heart. Her eyes slowly opened as we pulled away.

“I’ll be there in a second,” Kate said.

I already knew where “there” was. She didn’t have to repeat herself. I made my way upstairs and lay on her bed. Her room was much cleaner than before but it smelt the same. After about a minute, Kate joined me on the bed and we didn’t waste any time as we kissed each other again and again. Our forever continued. I slipped her top off un-taming her breasts. Within seconds, our clothes were scattered on the floor and our naked bodies were intertwined. Her slender legs felt smooth and warm on my palm and there was a tingling sensation at the tip of my fingers that ran through my entire body. Our moment turned into a small immeasurable eternity as our bare bodies became one under the sheets. It was the first time that I had had sex but it didn’t feel like anything new as our chemistry grew naturally. What started off as a kiss became something much much deeper.

The thing about getting too close to someone is that you actually give them all the power they need to hurt you. You find yourself ensnared by love because once you love someone you can’t unlove them and if you do it means that you didn’t love that person to begin with. This is why I always try to avoid love at all costs but I know that no matter how much I try I will always love. I fell in love before and it tears me apart to know that I will fall in love again.
