An eight-part series about the life of Leonardo da Vinci is coming to Amazon Prime very soon.
Aptly titled 'Leonardo', the period drama series follows Aidan Turner, as he portrays the Renaissance Italian master.
'Leonardo' is produced by Lux Vide and Rai Fiction, together with Big Light Productions in association with France Télévisions and RTVE in Spain.
The series is created by The Man in the High Castle’s Frank Spotnitz and Sherlock writer Stephen Thompson.
Here's everything we know about 'Leonardo'.
'Leonardo' will air on Amazon Prime on Friday, April 16.
All eight episodes will drop at once and will be available for streaming for Amazon Prime subscribers.
The series originally aired on the Rai 1 network in Italy from March 23, 2021, to April 13, 2021.
Set in 1400s Italy, the series will follow the historical figure as he gets suspected of murder by the Milan police officer.
They will dig out da Vinci's past, hoping to find a link between him and the case.
The series will chronicle how Leonardo da Vinci became the genius we know today. It will attempt to surmise the mystery behind one of the most brilliant minds of history.
"The other thing that Steve and I want to do is not just say that Leonardo was a genius, but really show why he was a genius and have the audience understand what it was that made him so brilliant and radical and centuries ahead of this time. To do that, you need to get really close to his work," Spotnitz explained about the series in an interview with Variety.
In a separate interview with Variety, Aidan Turner who plays the lead role says that he thinks they did a good job "in trying to show it (Leonardo's life) in an honest and truthful manner."
Here is the official cast list for 'Leonardo'.
Aidan Turner plays the titular role of Leonardo da Vinci.
The actor has been very keen on playing the role. He told Variety that he would've regretted it if he didn't accept the part.
"I felt like it was something I would have regretted had I not given it a go. It’s been one of those jobs that you quickly think as an actor, “If I saw somebody else playing this role, how would I feel about it?” And I didn’t feel good about that."
Alessandro Sperduti and Carlos Cuevas star as his assistants Tommaso Masini and Gian Giacomo Caprotti. Giancarlo Giannini plays Verrocchio, Matilda De Angelis as Caterina da Cremona, Freddie Highmore as Stefano Giraldi, James D'Arcy as Ludovico Sforza, Max Bennett as Cesare Borgia, and Miriam Dalmazio as Beatrice D’Este.
To complete the cast list, we have Robin Renucci as Piero da Vinci, Davide Iacopini as Nicolò Machiavelli, Poppy Gilbert as Ginevra de' Benci, and Edan Hayhurst as Gian Galeazzo Sforza.
