It's been four years since Kung Fu Panda 3 has released. Will Po's adventures carry on? Read all the details here.
Kung Fu Panda is one of the most successful computer-animated franchises for a couple of reasons.
The highly acclaimed and award-winning franchise by DreamWorks Animation has already released three films that grossed more than $1.8 billion combined worldwide.
The irresistible cute characters combined with witty lines, and an exciting sense of adventure catapulted the show to the tenth highest-grossing animated franchise.
It's been a long time since we were first introduced to Po, the clumsy, cuddly panda on the first Kung Fu Panda movie in 2008.
Since then, we've followed Po and his friends (Furious Five) on their journey in guarding the Valley of Peace. We saw how he struggled to embrace his true identity after learning that he was only adopted by his goose father, and still managed to defeat the evil peacock Lord Shen in Kung Fu Panda 2.
We witness how he rejoiced upon meeting his true panda dad and his remaining panda relatives hiding in Kung Fu Panda 3.
In all those years, we saw how Po evolved from a cumbersome panda to a true Kung Fu master. Right now, there's only one question left: Will we ever see a fourth installment?
There are no official announcements yet for Kung Fu Panda 4 albeit fans shouldn't lose hope. Looking back, it's important to note that the flicks in the franchise didn't have exactly close release dates. The three Kung Fu Panda films released in 2008, 2011, and 2016 respectively.
Although it's been four years since the last film premiered, fans should remain optimistic.
Fans should not worry as DreamWorks Animation chief Jeffrey Katzenberg already announced way back in 2010 that they have planned for three more films for the franchise.
In an interview via Empire, Katzenberg revealed, "Kung Fu Panda actually has 6 chapters to it, and we’ve mapped that out over the years."
In 2016, Kung Fu Panda 3 Co-director Jennifer Yuh Nelson revealed via Collider that they are trying to approach the films one at a time.
Nelson added, "We want to make this (Kung Fu Panda 3) a perfect jewel, and then we will see what happens after that.”
With this announced, we can rest assured that it's only a matter of time before we see Po showing off his Kung Fu skills and quirky humor on the big screen again.
Who will be the cast members of Kung Fu Panda 4?
There is no official cast list yet but the original main cast members of the Kung Fu Panda franchise are most likely to reprise their roles.
They are Jack Black as Po, the cuddly panda protagonist.
The furious five characters include Dustin Hoffman as Master Shifu, Angelina Jolie as Master Tigress, Seth Rogen as Master Mantis, Lucy Liu as Master Viper, David Cross as Master Crane, and Jackie Chan as Master Monkey.
James Hong may also reprise his role as Po's adoptive goose father, Mr. Ping.
The film companies have not released any details yet for the Kung Fu Panda 4's storyline. There are theories that the fourth film will show us Po falling in love.
While this is not confirmed, it's not remarkably detached considering Po's character has already conquered his vulnerabilities in the previous films.
Po has finally become a Kung Fu Master. He already met his biological father and the rest of the pandas in the secret Panda Valley. He has already defeated the forces of evil and restored harmony in the Valley of Peace. A love interest does not seem like a very bad idea after all. Plus, seeing Po training a bunch of baby pandas would surely be exhilarating.
For now, these are all just theories. We'll keep you posted for updates.
