Kung Fu Panda 4: What We Know So Far

This is a live-update article and it will be updated as new details about Kung Fu Panda 4 come our way. This is what we know so far.

Kung Fu Panda

Kung Fu Panda is one of the most successful computer-animated franchises for a couple of reasons. The highly acclaimed and award-winning franchise by DreamWorks Animation has already released three films that grossed more than $1.8 billion combined worldwide. The irresistible cute characters combined with witty lines and an exciting sense of adventure catapulted the show to the tenth highest-grossing animated franchise. It's been a long time since we were first introduced to Po, the clumsy, cuddly panda in the first Kung Fu Panda movie in 2008.

Since then, we've followed Po and his friends (Furious Five) on their journey to guard the Valley of Peace. We saw how he struggled to embrace his true identity after learning that he was only adopted by his goose father and still managed to defeat the evil peacock Lord Shen in Kung Fu Panda 2. We witness how he rejoiced upon meeting his true panda dad and his remaining panda relatives hiding in Kung Fu Panda 3. In all those years, we saw how Po evolved from a cumbersome panda to a true Kung Fu master. The fourth film will introduce us to a newer side of Po. So, here's all you need to know about the fourth installment.

When Is The Release Date Of Kung Fu Panda 4? Is It Happening?

Kung Fu Panda 4 is happening, and Universal Pictures shared the happy news in July 2022. Besides the film getting a green light for the fourth installment, Universal also shared the release date with the fans. Fans will be able to meet the witty and cute wide-eyed Po once again on March 8, 2024. In an interview via Empire, Jeffrey Katzenberg revealed, "Kung Fu Panda actually has six chapters to it, and we’ve mapped that out over the years."

We can also update you by saying that the release date has since not changed despite the industry strikes. At Expocine 2023, Hernán Viviano, a theatrical executive from Universal Pictures Brazil, made an announcement via Exibidor, confirming the scheduled release of "Kung Fu Panda 4" in Brazil for March. This aligns with the previously planned premiere date of March 8, 2024, in the United States, suggesting that the original schedule remains unchanged.

What Is The Possible Plot For Kung Fu Panda 4?

During CinemaCon 2023 in April, as reported by The Wrap, Jack Black took a prominent role in promoting Kung Fu Panda 4. He shared intriguing plot details and offered a glimpse into his portrayal of the character Po.

The movie marks the franchise's comeback to cinemas, focusing on Po's journey to identify his successor as the new Dragon Warrior.

In addition to his quest for a successor, Po will encounter a formidable adversary known as the Chameleon. This villain possesses the unique power to resurrect the spirits of Po's previous enemies.

In September 2023, the first glimpse of a new character, an anthropomorphic fox named Zhen, was revealed through official artwork. Zhen is speculated to be the potential successor Po is searching for in the movie.
