'KonoSuba: God's Blessing on this Wonderful World!', which is known as Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo! in Japanese, was a big hit when it premiered for the first time. The hit anime show is originally based on a light novel series of the same name. The light novel series was published for the first time on October 1, 2013, and then the year later, on September 9, 2014, it became a manga series of the same name. Three years after the publication of the novel series, Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo! was made into an anime show, and season 1, called KonoSuba, premiered for the first time on January 14, 2016. It didn't take long for the anime to become popular, and hence, fans fell in love with the anime series, and soon KonoSuba got renewed for the second season. The second installment premiered a year after the release of season 1, which was on January 12, 2017. Fans also got a chance to watch a few OVAs and a movie that was released after the second season. The second season of KonoSuba premiered for the first time on January 12, 2017. The movie 'KonoSuba: God's Blessing on this Wonderful World! Legend of Crimson' was released on August 30, 2019, keeping the flame alive. On July 2021, the official Twitter of KonoSuba anime announced that there would be more KonoSuba content coming soon.

The translated announcement reads:
“New animation production decision! A blessing to this wonderful world! The production of a new animation has been decided!

However, the announcement did not specify if the new project is the third season of the anime, a spin-off project, or a new feature film. Then, in May 2022, Kadokawa announced the confirmation of the third season, along with an announcement of a KonoSuba spin-off anime series. It was later confirmed on the official KonoSuba Twitter Account that the third season of KonoSuba will premiere in 2024 on June 21, 2023. The announcement also came with a key visual.

Going with how the streaming service describes the anime series, "After a traffic accident, Kazuma Sato's disappointingly brief life was supposed to be over, but he wakes up to see a beautiful girl before him. She claims to be a goddess, Aqua, and asks if he wants to go to another world and bring only one thing with him. Kazuma decides to bring the goddess herself, and they are transported to a fantasy world filled with adventure, ruled by a demon king.
