What Is The Plot Of  'Kingdom: Ashin of the North'?

'Kingdom: Ashin of the North' will tell the story of Ashin (played by Jun Ji-Hyun also known as Gianna Jun). She is the mysterious woman who appeared in the closing scene of the second season.

When Ashin was a young girl, she discovered the existence of a mysterious plant that can bring back the dead. Her father warned her not to venture into the forbidden forest, hearing that some dangerous and inexplicable creatures live in the area. Seeing her mother's deteriorating condition, Ashin is forced to disobey her father's command. One night, Ashin witnesses her entire village getting mercilessly attacked. The young Ashin sought justice but was coldly denied by the  Joseons (Prince Chang's people). Thus, begin a long journey of vengeance. Based on the official trailer, it seems like Ashin will be using the plants to get the vengeance she strongly seeks, vowing to “kill every living thing.”

'Kingdom' series Screenwriter Kim Eun Hee and director Kim Sung Hoon revealed why they decided to produce a special episode and how this prepares for Kingdom Season 3.

“We cannot leave out the story of the saengsacho (the resurrection plant). I decided to go with a special episode because I thought it would be more interesting.” Kim Sung Hoon then added, “If the first season served as the cornerstone of the world, ‘Kingdom: Ashin of the North’ will be a stepping stone to go beyond ‘Kingdom 3.’” – Kim Eun Hee and Kim Sung Hoon said via Soompi.

Kim Eun Hee also unveiled some significant information about Ashin's character.

“As you may have guessed from her attire, she is the heir of the Northern Yeojin tribe village who lives near the Yalu River. It would be nice if you think of her as the person who is closest to the secret of the saengsacho.”
