In his first significant television role, Keanu Reeves is set to star in the adaptation of Devil in the White City, an eight-episode series set to release in 2024. The show is expected to hit the streaming platform Hulu and is based on Erik Larson’s best-seller Devil in the White City. What’s more? Martin Scorcese and Leonardo DiCaprio will be joining the collaboration process as executive producers, GQ Magazine reported.

The book follows a well-renowned architect Daniel H. Burnham (Reeves) who wanted to make his mark in history as the builder of 1893’s Chicago World’s Fair and was also involved in the city planning for Chicago, Manila, and Washington D.C. Additionally, the show will follow his interactions with Dr. H. H. Holmes, America’s first modern serial killer and the host of the ‘Murder Castle’ a place created in the fair’s shadow where he used to lure people in, according to Deadline

DiCaprio first received the rights of this book in 2010 and was supposed to star in the film adaptation with Paramount Pictures coupled with Scorcese directing it. However, in 2019, Hulu announced that it would be turning the book into a limited series with the original duo joining in as executive producers. For now, it is unclear whether DiCaprio will make an appearance in the show or not, but this will serve as Keanu Reeves’ first major television role, The Hollywood Reporter mentioned.

While there was chatter about this casting back in January of this year, it was confirmed when the news was announced Thursday, August 4, 2022, as part of Hulu’s virtual time before the press at the Television Critics Association’s summer tour. Along with Scorcese and DiCaprio, Sam Shaw (Hulu’s Castle Rock) is on board as writer, showrunner, and executive producer. DiCaprio’s Appian Way partner, Jennifer Davisson will also join in as an executive producer, Todd Field is on board now to direct the series, which is now a co-production between Paramount Television Studios and Disney’s ABC Signature.

This is not the first collaboration that Scorcese and DiCaprio will be a part of. They have worked together on multiple projects including Gangs of New York, The Aviator, The Departed, Shutter Island, and The Wolf of Wall Street. They had wanted to adapt Gangs of New York and Shutter Island as a television show but couldn’t move past the script stage. Currently, DiCaprio has a film and TV deal at Apple. DiCaprio executive produces the Apple series Shining Girls and previously did the $200 million feature Killers of the Flower Moon for the streamer.
