DiCaprio first received the rights of this book in 2010 and was supposed to star in the film adaptation with Paramount Pictures coupled with Scorcese directing it. However, in 2019, Hulu announced that it would be turning the book into a limited series with the original duo joining in as executive producers. For now, it is unclear whether DiCaprio will make an appearance in the show or not, but this will serve as Keanu Reeves’ first major television role, The Hollywood Reporter mentioned.

This is not the first collaboration that Scorcese and DiCaprio will be a part of. They have worked together on multiple projects including Gangs of New York, The Aviator, The Departed, Shutter Island, and The Wolf of Wall Street. They had wanted to adapt Gangs of New York and Shutter Island as a television show but couldn’t move past the script stage. Currently, DiCaprio has a film and TV deal at Apple. DiCaprio executive produces the Apple series Shining Girls and previously did the $200 million feature Killers of the Flower Moon for the streamer.
