Giant Freakin Robot has learned from a source that the beloved Matrix actor has been cast to play a role in the MCU. The role is still a secret and is for a Marvel film as opposed to a series on Disney+. The casting is being kept under wraps at the moment and announcements will only be made when the project is set to begin. There have been meetings between Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige and Reeves that have been taking place since 2019 so it may actually be happening.

The source also explained that casting Reeves happened the same way the studios cast Harry Styles as Eros who made an appearance in the Eternals post-credit scene. There was talk about Styles' involvement with the MCU but no one knew in what capacity till after the release of the Eternals film in November 2021. Similarly, with Reeves, there has been no hint as to what role he might be taking on. He could be a part of a Marvel project in the near future or even a part of the next MCU Phase. However, there has been a fan-casting of Reeves as Ghost Rider.

In 2019, Fiege held a meeting with Reeves but they apparently did not come to any conclusion as to how he will be a part of the MCU. "We talk to him for almost every film we make," Feige had told Comic Book. "We talk to Keanu Reeves about. I don't know when, if, or ever he'll join the MCU, but we very much want to figure out the right way to do it." Reeves had also said, "We have met, and [Kevin Feige]'s a cool cat. Yeah. But no, we don't have anything, gotta find something," adding that they could not find a character for him to play yet.

MCU rumors were at an all-time high preceding The Matrix Resurrections' release in December 2021. "It would be an honor [to join the MCU]," Reeves had told Esquire in a new interview. "There's some really amazing directors and visionaries, and they're doing something no one's ever really done. It's special in that sense in terms of the scale, the ambition, the production. So it'd be cool to be a part of that." Feige also added, "I don’t know when, if, or ever he’ll join the MCU, but we very much want to figure out the right way to do it." Till then fans have the time to discuss all the potential roles Reeves could be cast in.
