Gerard Butler will be back on the big screen real soon! The Scottish-born actor will be seen in action attire for his new action flick named Kandahar. The film is said to be loosely based on the movie's writer Mitchell LaFortune's own experiences as a military intelligence officer posted in Afghanistan in the aftermath of the Snowden leaks. The first look seems pretty promising and here's everything we know so far...
The film debuted its first look pictures on February 10, 2023, and a week later a full-length trailer was unveiled and with that came the release date which is May 26th, 2023. The film will be met with solid competition as Disney's Little Mermaid and Robert De Niro's comedy About My Father.
The film is set in the year 2013 and shows a perspective of events that have never been shown before. The film centers around John Harris who is an undercover CIA agent carrying out a pretty risky operation in Afghanistan. The film shows how he eludes the special forces and reaches a location 400 miles away from Kandahar, Afghanistan. Here is the official logline of the film,
"Tom Harris, an undercover CIA operative, is stuck deep in hostile territory in Afghanistan. When an intelligence leak exposes his identity and mission, he must fight his way out, alongside his Afghan translator, to an extraction point in Kandahar, all whilst avoiding the elite special forces unit tasked with hunting them down."
Alongside Gerard Butler, there's Navid Ngahban as an Afghan translator who is with Harris on the same mission. He will be seen throughout the runtime of the movie alongside Butler. He is known for his roles in 24, Mistresses, Homeland, and also the remake of Aladdin. Kandahar also includes Ali Fazal who is an Indian actor and has made his mark in Hollywood with his performances in Victoria & Abdul and Death on the Nile. Other members of the cast include Bahador Foladi, Olivia-Mai Barrett, Nina Toussaint-White, and Travis Fimmel That's the extent of our information on the cast of Kandahar.
