The latest actor to join the roster is Kal Penn (Harold & Kumar franchise, House MD). He will be joining the show as a lead opposite Allen and Mitchell, reported Deadline. Penn will be playing the role of Simon Choksi, an ambitious game inventor and product developer and a devoted single father. However, Simon can talk the tech-mogul talk but can’t walk the walk. He dreams of being the next Bezos but falls drastically short. This all changes after a visit to the North Pole. No other cast member has been confirmed yet.

The 1994 Christmas comedy was the story of Scott who is thrust into the role of Santa Claus after he causes Santa to fall off his roof on Christmas Eve. Along with his son, he manages to help fulfill Santa's duty but on returning to the North Pole, he learns that he has been recruited to be the next Santa Claus. He must then convince his loved ones that he is, in fact, Santa Claus. There were two sequels following this that came out in 2002 and 2006. The sequel movies were not as successful as the first film.

As for the upcoming sequel series, the premise will follow Scott who is now on the brink of his 65th birthday. He realizes that he can't be Santa forever. He's starting to lose a step in his duty as Santa. More importantly, he thinks his family could benefit from a life in the normal world, particularly, his two kids who have grown up at the Pole. Scott then sets out to find a suitable replacement for Santa with the help of his elves and children. At the same time, he starts preparing his family for a new adventure to live a life south of the pole. Production for the series is set to begin this month.

Jack Burditt, the man behind 30 RockModern Family, and Frasier, will be the showrunner while Kevin Hench (Last Man Standing), Richard Baker, and Rick Messina will serve as executive producers. The show seems to be running on schedule. There was no release date announced but the series will most likely premiere during Christmas time.
