Netflix is bringing Mark Millar and Frank Quitely's comic book series to life in this live-action adaptation.
'Jupiter’s Legacy' is an upcoming superhero series on Netflix, based on the comic book series created by Mark Millar and Frank Quitely.
The adaptation is set to release this year, with Millar overseeing the production.
Here is everything you need to know about the "most epic" superhero series.
The superhero series will premiere in 2021, the exact date is yet to be announced.
The series will have eight episodes with the original creator Mark Millar writing the script, together with Brian Gunn, Mark Gunn, and Steven S. DeKnight. Millar also acts as the executive producer of the show.
The production team has wrapped up filming on January 24, 2020.
Here's a timeline of the show's production:
Production for ‘Jupiter’s Legacy’ has started way back in 2019, in Toronto, Canada, under the working title 'Zeus.'
Here are some of our first look at the series through set pictures.
In September 2019, Steven S. DeKnight has resigned as showrunner from the project citing creative differences.
In April 2020, Mark Millar gave us a post-production update saying that the FX work continues and is making good progress.
Jupiter's Legacy update! As beautiful FX work on S1 continues I'm just finishing the first volume of the sequel for Thursday. 45 page #1, 26 pages for # 2-5, 35 page #6. An absolute beast, but it's a cracker. You're going to LOVE this comic in the New Year!— Mark Millar (@mrmarkmillar) April 14, 2020
In December 2020, Millar provided another update revealing he's finished writing the producer’s notes for all eight episodes and teased that the series will be "the most epic thing you can possibly imagine!"
Just watched this week's cut of Jupiter's Legacy episodes 1-8 and finished writing up my producer notes. Off to bed brain-fried after 8 hrs in one seat, but brain-fried with PURE JOY. This is the most epic thing you can possibly imagine! pic.twitter.com/TeYfEJeLsi— Mark Millar (@mrmarkmillar) December 20, 2020
He also revealed that episode 7 is specifically “SPECTACULAR-looking” in a separate tweet.
The series follows Superhero parents whose children struggle to live up to their legacy.
The leading generation of Superheroes received their power in the 1930s. In the present day, these superheroes are respected as the elder guard. However, their children are having a hard time living up to their parent’s legacy and legendary feats.
Mark Millar confirmed that the Netflix series is a “combination” of Jupiter’s Legacy 1 and 2 plus Jupiter’s Circle 1 and 2.
‘Jupiter’s Legacy’ Is Owned By Netflix
Ownership of a show is essential because it can influence its future in the streaming service.
Millar confirmed that Netflix owns 'Jupiter’s Legacy' and all the current Millarworld properties that are not already licensed out (The Kingsman, Kick-Ass).
Note to journalists: Netflix bought Millarworld outright like Disney bought Marvel. Jupiter’s Legacy is 100% owned by Netflix like Disney owns Iron Man. Not a licensing deal :)— Mark Millar (@mrmarkmillar) February 11, 2019
