Will Yuji Itadori's adventures and battle against Curses continue to season 2? Here's what we know.
'Jujutsu Kaisen', one of the biggest anime releases of 2020, has aired its last episode in March, and fans are already clamoring for more.
The anime adaptation of the manga series written and illustrated by Gege Akutami was massively successful that it made the source material even more popular.
'Jujutsu Kaisen' follows Yuji Itadori, a high school student who swallows a cursed charm talisman. As a result, he became a host to the powerful curse of Ryomen Sukuna.
The 24-episode series premiered on MBS in Japan on Oct 3, 2020, and concluded on March 27, 2021.
Let's find out if the anime will be back for more.
'Jujutsu Kaisen' is not renewed for season 2 yet, but there is a big chance that it will be picked up for another season sometime soon. The anime is well-loved by fans. It has an impressive 8.77/10 rating from 705,287 users on MyAnimeList. The anime television series adaptation was produced by MAPPA, the same studio behind the final season of 'Attack on Titan'.
The shounen anime is highly praised for its dedication and effort in animation, especially when it comes to the fighting scenes. The anime's popularity has dramatically increased the sales of the manga it's based on. As you might already know, animes serve as an important marketing tool to drive more sales to the manga series.
The massive success of the 'Jujutsu Kaisen' anime has pushed the manga to achieve a new milestone. 'Jujutsu Kaisen' has over 45 million copies (both digital and print) of the manga in circulation as of April 2021. Although this does not equate to sales, it serves as an indicator of the current demand for the manga series.
The second season of the anime is yet to get renewed. However, fans should not worry because another 'Jujutsu Kaisen' adaptation is coming out for them. A feature film based on 'Jujutsu Kaisen 0' is in development. 'Jujutsu Kaisen 0 the Movie' is set for December 24, 2021 premiere in Japan. 'Jujutsu Kaisen 0' serves as a prequel series. The events in 'Jujutsu Kaisen 0' are canon to the main story and will be referenced in the newest arc of the manga and the potential next season.
Assuming that 'Jujutsu Kaisen' will get renewed soon, the new season won't release at least until the movie comes out. For now, the earliest possible release window for season 2 is 2023.
Season 1 follows Yuji's first contact with Sukuna and how he gets wrapped up with the Jujutsu School and the sorcerers. Throughout the 24 episodes, we followed Yuji and the sorcerers in their quest to find the remaining pieces of Sukuna. We witnessed different battles against Curses, while Yuji, Megumi, and Nobara's characters changed along the way.
By the end of the first season, Yuji and Nobara successfully defeated the two human brothers who become Curses, also known as Death Paintings. There is also a potential romance building up as Yuji meets Yuko, his old classmate who has a crush on him.
Season 2 will most likely cover the events of the 'Shibuya Incident.' In this story arc, the team of sorcerers led by Yuji will have to face even more dangerous battles against Curses and other evil forces. If you loved the fighting scenes in season 1, then you are in for a bigger treat once the anime returns for season 2.
