Critics accuse Jimmy Kimmel of stealing the spotlight from winner, Quinta Brunson.
Jimmy Kimmel is being called out for his long-stretched comic skit at the Emmys.
Critics accuse Jimmy Kimmel of stealing the spotlight from winner, Quinta Brunson. While the ceremony was taking place, Kimmel and Will Arnett stepped on the stage to present the award for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series, Arnett dragged a "passed out" Kimmel onto the stage and laid his body out next to the microphone stand while he explained the late-night host had too many margaritas backstage. Arnett quipped that Kimmel had drowned his sorrows backstage due to disappointment, this being the “13th time in a row that he’s lost.”
CAN SOMEONE TELL THE HUMAN PERSONIFICATION OF WHITE MALE PRIVILEGE THAT IS @jimmykimmel THAT HE IS NOT ENTITLED TO TAKE UP *ALL* THE SPACE—ESPECIALLY WHEN THAT SPACE BELONGS TO @quintabrunson WHO HAD TO LITERALLY NAVIGATE AROUND HIM TO ACCEPT HER HISTORIC #EMMY

The sketch garnered audible guffaws — and groans — from the crowd. However, things took a turn after Arnett announced that Brunson had won the Emmy for her ABC series “Abbot Elementary,” but Kimmel continued to carry his skit i.e. laying down on the stage near the mic, even after Brunson jokingly exclaimed, "Jimmy, wake up. I won." This action Kimmel did not work in his favor, as he is being slammed online for showing this much ignorance and disrespect. After a few awkward glances downward, Brunson decided to ignore him and continued with her acceptance speech. After she was done, Arnett dutifully dragged Kimmel offstage - Kimmel committed to the bit until the very end.
Jimmy laid super close to Brunson as she gave her speech, making it nearly impossible for the show's directors to get a shot of her without him in it. Twitter soon lit up with outrage, as Abbot Elementary fans expressed anger at Kimmel for drawing so much attention to himself during Brunson’s big moment. Brunson's fans were filled with rage to an extent that many accused the host of epitomizing “white male privilege” with one critic writing, “If #QuintaBrunson stepping over #JimmyKimmel who literally laid in her spotlight on the day she won an Emmy isn’t a metaphor for what it means to be a WOC in a white mans world I don’t know what is.”

One angry Twitter post seconded their sentiment, writing: “Jimmy Kimmel owes Quinta an apology but the messed up part is every image of her accepting her award has his ass in it. White men really are insufferable.”

White men really are insufferable.
While Kimmel clearly misjudged the situation, Brunson didn’t seem to hold a grudge. After the ceremony, Brunson seemed keen to move on from the awkward moment, telling reporters:
"I think in that moment, I was just really happy that it was Jimmy up there ... I don’t know, tomorrow maybe I’ll be mad at him. I’m gonna be on his show on Wednesday, so I might punch him in the face. I don’t know. We’ll see what happens.”
