Jim Carrey made a rather demeaning comment about Margot Robbie and the internet is reacting.
Jim Carrey's recent comment about Margot Robbie's looks on the Graham Norton show has gotten the world's panties in a bunch.
Jim Carrey plays the villain in the upcoming movie Sonic The Hedgehog and during an interview with The Graham Norton show, he apparently made Margot Robbie feel awkward. He said:
“You’re really something, Margot Robbie. It’s incredible you got as far as you have with your obvious physical disadvantages. That’s pure talent there.”
This comment got the crowd laughing and even Robbie chuckled a bit. However, if you took the comment seriously you would believe that it insinuated that Robbie only got where she is today because of her looks and not her talent.
One person tweeted “Direct object insult," and another added ”Did Jim Carrey just tell Margot Robbie she’s got where she is because of her looks? Can’t stand the man tbh.”
The backlash against Carrey's comments came fast and furious with another tweeting:
“Did anyone else think Carrey’s comment was not okay? She’s an amazing actress and now a successful producer. Had it been a male actor in her seat, I doubt he would have commented on their ‘obvious physical disadvantages’.”
Below are a couple of other tweets:
Now this is a funny joke with some implied criticism by Rachel.— Nathalia Price (@NatFigz) February 1, 2020
You see, it’s only worth it if a) the joke is funny and/ or b) the criticism is deserved; I’m afraid @JimCarrey missed both when addressing Margot Robbie. https://t.co/iujTbCkExG
Margot Robbie didn't verbally express her discomfort with the comment but some viewers believe that her non-verbals showed it all:
“Poor Margot Robbie looks completely freaked out by [Jim],” one person wrote.
Another tweeted: “Really looks like Margot Robbie is not enjoying Jim Carrey.”
How creeped out is Margot Robbie by Jim Carrey? #TheGNShow— Julie Egan (@mcdougal25) January 31, 2020
Margot Robbie really looking like she’d rather be chewing a turd than sat next to Jim Carrey. #GrahamNortonShow— Jamie East (@jamieeast) January 31, 2020
It's a fact that the comment itself was rather demeaning but it seemed more like a playful tease. It's hard to think that Carrey would actually try to make Robbie feel bad about herself so publicly.
And did Robbie feel insulted by the comment? Well, we may never know. Her body language did show that she felt a little awkward by it. But I don't think she took it too seriously. Margot Robbie is beautiful and in Hollywood, looks do have a part to play in one's success but you can't be all looks and no talent or else you'd just be a runway model. And Margot Robbie ain't no runway model!
