“But as happens in any relationship, gay or straight or whatever label we want to put on it, one never knows really what the other person is feeling. You can’t know, you can believe you know. So I’m less interested in the sexual side – though I believe there is a sexual dimension to this relationship – than I am in the sense of the emotions they felt for each other, which ultimately is the most fascinating thing about all human relationship,” Rowling adds.
This is not the first time that the author has spoken about Dumbledore's sexual orientation. Back in 2007, Rowling had shocked the fans by revealing that Dumbledore was gay. A lot of people expressed anger towards the statement she made, but a lot of others were happy about it.
Many of them were even disappointed about the fact that the film Hary Potter spinoff series 'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them' would not reveal about the sexuality of the character.
Seeing Dumbledore's close relationship with Grindelwald gave the fans a little hint about what the real relationship between them would be. The author plans to extend and develop the Wizarding world and the fans are all in support even after so many years. The Harry Potter franchise has grown over the years and everyone keeps expecting new twists and turns in the storyline of the universe.
This new information that the author has revealed about the two characters could give the fans a hint about what to expect from the future of the universe. Earlier, the author had also revealed that Dumbledore was her favorite character from the series. Rowling is considered to be one of the most successful writers of her time with despite the controversies that last for very little time.
The author had earlier spoken about the Harry Potter spin-off 'Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald' to Entertainment Weekly, talking about the title character and said, "The first mention of Grindelwald is in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, so he has been part of the canon from the beginning. He was a very famous dark wizard whom Dumbledore defeated in 1945, a wizard who once owned the Elder Wand (as Voldemort did later)."
"Although he remained rather mysterious in the Potter books, I had a very clear understanding of who Grindelwald was and what his story had been. Grindelwald is essential to an understanding of how Dumbledore became Dumbledore," she added. Rowling also spoke about writing dialogues for a young Dumbledore.
She said, "It is no secret that Dumbledore is my favorite character in the Potter stories, so it was an absolute joy to have an opportunity to write dialogue for him again. He’s a fascinating character on so many levels."
The makers have planned out five films in that series. In the same interview, Rowling revealed the plan for the rest of the films. "As with the Harry Potter books, it is all mapped out. In fact, when we announced the five films, I talked about that. It’s always possible that some details will change along the way, but the arc of the story is there. It’s been an amazing opportunity to tell parts of the backstory that never made it into the original books. I’m thinking particularly of one character that I think fans will be surprised to meet in this movie."
In an earlier interview with Pottermore, the actor, who plays the role from the film 'Fantastic Beasts and The Crimes of Grindelwald' said, "I really love that [J.K. Rowling] writes such rich and complex characters," Katherine said. "And I really love that Tina, in the second film, maintains her duality while she resolves some of her issues. She’s got her groove back at work, but she’s still not confident in all areas in her life."
