Mark Wahlberg's new sci-fi action flick is set to release this month and here's all you need to know.
Infinite is the next big sci-fi action flick by Paramount Plus. It Is a loose adaption of the 2009 novel The Reincarnationist Papers by D. Eric Maikranz.
Antoine Fuqua directed the film, and in it, we get to see Mark Wahlberg experience the multiple lives over his infinite existence. The film has quite a lot of facets to it. Infinite producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura even likened it to the legendary Warner Bros. flick "The Matrix." Let's get into all there is to know about the upcoming film.
The film follows a man named Evan McCauley, played by Mark Wahlberg. He is a self-medicated man diagnosed with schizophrenia. His diagnosis is based on the fact that he keeps having memories of places he's never been. He is soon visited by a secret society, and they inform him that his memories are real and are all from events from his past life. The infinites are able to channel the skills of their past lives, and Evan joins them in a mission to stop one of their own named Bathurst, who seeks to destroy humanity.
There are three factions among the infinities. There are the Believers, the Hedonists, and the Nihilists. Evan joins the Believers while the big baddy Bathurst is a part of the Nihilists. The Hedonists simply enjoy their lives.
Di Bonaventura likened the film to the Matrix in a phone interview with IGN.
The experience I had on The Matrix was it was ideas that were intellectual, they were things that were emotional, but they stimulated more conversation. And the same thing happened when I looked at Infinite and said to myself, ‘What's the experience of this movie? What's the deeper significance?’ if you would.
And what happened on the movie was everyone got sucked into that vortex of like, ‘Oh, so if you live life that many times, how do you view life? Do your values change?’ And it was just one of those things that really captured me and proved out in the movie.”
Mark Wahlberg is the main lead of the sci-fi flick as Evan McCauley. He is joined by Chiwetel Ejiofor, Sophie Cookson, Jason Mantzoukas, Rupert Friend, Liz Carr, Toby Jones, and Dylan O'Brien.
Chris Evans was first eyed to star as Evan in the film but dropped out due to scheduling issues with Defending Jacob.
Ultimately, Lorenzo di Bonaventura believes that Mark Wahlberg is the right man for the job. In an interview, di Bonaventura said:
One of Mark's great qualities is that there's a sense of authenticity to who he is and there's a basic decency and sort of a grounding that makes him extremely relatable.
You want a guy that's saying, ‘Really? You're going to try to convince me of this. Really? I'm reincarnated?’ And Mark's great for that. And then, of course, you want him to rise to being the hero, which Mark is very good at. So he fits what we were hoping for out of that character.
Infinite is set to release digitally on Parmount+ on June 10, 2021.
It was initially scheduled for a theatrical release on August 7, 2020. However, due to the Coronavirus pandemic, it was then postponed to May 28, 2021, then to September 24, 2021, before settling to its current release schedule.
