'Hunter × Hunter' Is Coming Back After A Four Year Hiatus, Confirms Creator

Yoshihiro Togashi created a Twitter account to announce that he is currently working on the next 'Hunter × Hunter' manga volume.

Hunter x Hunter

Hunter × Hunter is officially coming back! Fans of the anime were informed by the author, Yoshihiro Togashi himself that he has started working on new manga again.

The story follows the life of a young boy named Gon Freecss who discovers that his father, who left him at a young age, is actually a world-renowned Hunter. Gon wants to follow in his father's footsteps and eventually also find his father. But first, he has to pass the notoriously difficult and dangerous Hunter Qualification Exam. Throughout his journey, Gon overcomes many obstacles, while making new friends along the way.

The manga series first was first serialized in 1998 and since then has gone through multiple hiatuses. The last hiatus was in 2018 and lasted for four years, also becoming the longest hiatus to date. Many fans believed that this was the end of the manga series and had made peace with never meeting their favorite characters again. But Togashi surprised the fans by creating a Twitter account and then announcing that the manga was being revived. “4 more episodes for the time being,” Togashi said in the tweet and also attached the work-in-progress from the said chapters to the tweet. He is currently finishing up another volume of the manga.

One-Punch Man artist Yusuke Murata confirmed that this Twitter account is the real deal and dispelled fans' fear that the tweet was fake and was giving them false hope. So far in the storyline, Gon’s adventures have led up to the wild Chimera Ant arc, with the most recent manga volumes have been focused on Kurapika. He is now on a quest to avenge his fallen clan and retrieve their stolen eyes. For this, he ends up joining a dangerous expedition to an unknown land, serving as the bodyguard to a baby princess. Leorio is also aboard the ship, serving on the Med Bay, but we don’t see much of him.

For now, there are no other details other than this candid announcement that was made. No plot details were provided and there is no specific date that was given with regard to when the chapters may be published. Shonen Jump has not commented on Togashi's Twitter update yet. But the good news is that this means that the manga and the anime can pick up to revive the whole fandom again.
