Mason Thames is most known for his impressive performance in The Black Phone, while Nico Parker captivated viewers as Joel's daughter in HBO's The Last of Us series.

In the original animated movies, Hiccup was voiced by Jay Baruchel, while America Ferrera lent her voice to Astrid. The casting process for the live-action film was an extensive one, spanning several months, as the production sought actors who could not only embody the roles but also grow alongside the characters throughout the story, mirroring their journey towards maturity.

Dean DeBlois, who wrote and directed all three animated films, will return to spearhead the script, direction, and production of the live-action adaptation. Fans can expect the film to begin production this summer.

The animated How to Train Your Dragon film is set in a fantastical Viking village, and revolves around Hiccup, a young Viking who yearns to follow in his tribe's footsteps by becoming a dragon slayer. However, after capturing his first dragon, Toothless, Hiccup discovers that these creatures are more complex and fascinating than he initially believed. The original trilogy, consisting of How to Train Your Dragon, How to Train Your Dragon 2, and How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World, collectively grossed over $1.6 billion worldwide. The franchise has also spawned a variety of short films, TV series, video games, and more.

Although the last film was intended to serve as a conclusive chapter for the franchise, its immense popularity prompted Universal and Dreamworks Animation to embark on a live-action reboot. The Live action rebookt of How to Train Your Dragon is scheduled to hit theaters on March 14, 2025.
