Hilary Duff's spinoff series will tie in with the original sitcom.
There have been multiple attempts to create 'How I Met Your Mother' spinoff series, but none of them has managed to get past the development stage and come into screen.
Finally, one spinoff is about to come into realization, with Hilary Duff set to star for the lead role.
'How I Met Your Father,' a spinoff to the popular sitcom, is finally in the works. The series is officially announced by Hulu on April 2021. Aside from taking on the lead role, Duff will also serve as the producer of the show.
'How I Met Your Mother' creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas will serve as executive producers, together with Victor Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger.
Here's everything we know about 'How I Met Your Father.'
The series is yet to enter production, and there is still no release date attached as of this writing.
The first season will have 10 episodes and will be available for streaming on Hulu.
The series will follow a similar structure to 'How I Met Your Mother.' It follows Sophie (Duff), who is narrating to her son the story about how she met his father. It is set in New York but will be filmed in Los Angeles.
The show will chronicle Sophie and her friends' journey as they navigate life, modern dating, and relationships.
“There's so much opportunity for love stories with this show because it's Sophie and then, three dudes,” Duff said in SiriusXM's The Jess Cagle Show as quoted by ET. “So it's going down that whole rabbit hole of like, well, which one was the one, and who was the father? And you get to go through all of Sophie's young experience of finding love and dating and what that's like in the modern world.”
Although much of the plot details remain unknown as of this writing, Duff assures us that it will tie in with the original sitcom.
“I don't want to give it all away, and the script is definitely being changed a little bit, but it does tie in.”
So far, we have only confirmed Duff's casting for the lead role. There are no additional casting details yet, but we are expecting to hear more in the upcoming months. It's also still not confirmed if 'How I Met Your Mother' original cast, including Neil Patrick Harris, Cobie Smulders, Jason Segel, Alyson Hannigan, and Radnor, will make a cameo appearance or if they will play a bigger part on the spinoff.
Nevertheless, it seems that Duff is also up for the idea, saying:
“Hopefully, we’ll have some fun guest appearances from the original cast,”
The spinoff series is yet to begin production. Hence, we'll have to wait for a long time before seeing it. We will leave this space blank for now, but we will update it once the official trailer is released.
