‘House of Gucci’ Trailer: Lady Gaga Plans Murder And The Downfall Of The Gucci Dynasty

Power, money, and greed are the central themes of the story behind the fashion brand's history, which is perfectly encapsulated in the trailer.

The release date for the much-anticipated film, House of Gucci is getting closer. MGM has now released another trailer set to the haunting tune of Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This) by the British pop duo Eurythmics. The star-studded film includes Lady Gaga, Adam Driver, Jared Leto, Jeremy Irons, Salma Hayek, and Al Pacino. It is based on the 2001 book The House of Gucci: A Sensational Story of Murder, Madness, Glamour, and Greed by Sara Gay Forden and follows the true events of what went down with the Gucci dynasty. Power, money, and greed are the central themes of the story behind the fashion brand's history, which is perfectly encapsulated in the trailer.

The initial trailer was released earlier this year in July. The latest trailer includes more elements of the drama that went down in the Gucci household involving socialite Patrizia Reggiani Martinelli (Lady Gaga), and her husband, Maurizio Gucci's (Driver) family. We get another sneak peek into what to expect from the film which tells the story of the events that took place in the 90s. Martinelli arranged for her husband, Gucci's heir, to be gunned down on his way to his Milan office. She was labeled "The Black Widow" by the media back then and was sentenced to 29 years in jail.

“I don’t consider myself a particularly ethical person, but I am fair,” Gaga, as Martinelli, says in the trailer as she takes a sip of her coffee. Martinelli is introduced to her husband's family and she says, "They had it all, wealth, style, power," and adds, "Who wouldn't kill for that?" We then see the ups and downs of the family before Martinelli hires the hitman to assassinate her husband, telling him "not to miss."

The film is directed by Ridley Scott with a screenplay by Becky Johnston and Roberto Bentivegna. The film was shot from February to May of 2021 in various parts of Italy. The world premiere of the film is set to take place at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles. House of Gucci will be released in the United States on November 24, 2021, by United Artists Releasing. Many fans who have been enthralled by the trailer are already predicting another Oscar win for Lady Gaga.

"I knew I was about to play a murderer. I also knew how Tony [Bennett] feels about Italians being represented in film in terms of crime. I wanted to make a real person out of Patrizia, not a caricature," she stated about her role as Martinelli and how her musical collaborator helped her prepare for the role, as per Billboard. "I felt the best way to honor Maurizio and Italians was for my performance to be authentic, from the perspective of a woman. Not an Italian-American woman, but an Italian woman."
