‘Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha,’ Netflix and tvN‘s healing and heartwarming series has finally ended after 16 episodes. ‘Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha’ is among the most popular K-Drama shows of 2021, ranking first place based on Korean Nielsen ratings during its entire run for eight weeks.
The final episode achieved an outstanding 12.665% nationwide audience share in Korea, with over 3.2 million views. Outside Korea, ‘Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha‘ consistently sits at Netflix’s top 10 list in different countries.
With its massive success, it is just normal for fans to wish to see more of the series. However, that is unlikely to happen. We will explain why ‘Hometown ChaChaCha’ is not returning for season 2 despite its commercial success.
Is ‘Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha’ Returning For Season 2?
Directed by Yoo Je Won and written by Shin Ha Eun, ‘Hometown ChaChaCha’ is a remake of the 2004 South Korean film Mr. Handy, Mr. Hong. Studio Dragon and GT:st handled the production of the K-Drama series.
Despite its popularity, the weekly K-drama series will no longer return for season 2. Unlike western shows, K-Drama series usually don’t overstay their welcome. They often wrap the stories of their shows within one season. There are only very few K-Drama series that made it past season one.
Aside from that, ‘Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha’ is a television adaptation of the 2004 South Korean film ‘Mr. Handy, Mr. Hong’. That makes it even harder for the series to get renewed. The first season has covered the entire plotline, and extending the show for a second season means they would have to go beyond the source material.
Most of all, ‘Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha‘ ended in a very heartwarming and definitive manner. Having a second season will only undo the emotional ending of the first 16 episodes.
