'High School Musical' Reboot Announces Cast, Starts Production

Disney has started production on a 'High School Musical' reboot and we got a whole new cast and crew!

"High School Musical" is making a return with a whole new cast and production has already started. So, we can be seeing some crazy teen dance moves in the halls of East High very soon.

Disney has announced that production has just begun on "High School Musical: The Musical”. It will be one of the many new series for Disney+.

The 10 episode series is set in the same universe as the original movie but 15 years later. It follows the shenanigans of a group of students preparing for opening night of their school’s first production of "High School Musical."

We will get some reimagined versions of songs from the original movie as well as new songs. It’s already been set up to be one of the greatest TV show musicals of all time. Glee? What is Glee?

Zac Efron and Vannessa Hudgens won’t be returning nor will any of the original cast but the new cast seems ready and full of flare. The new cast, according to Deadline includes: Joshua Bassett ("Stuck in the Middle"), Olivia Rodrigo ("Bizaardvark"), Kate Reinders ("Modern Family"), Sofia Wylie ("Andi Mack"), Matt Cornett ("Bella and the Bulldogs"), Dara Reneé ("Freaky Friday"), Julia Lester ("Mom"), Frankie Rodriguez ("Modern Family), Larry Saperstein ("Fan Girl"), and Mark St. Cyr ("Doomsday").

"The challenge we handed the creative team was Herculean. How do you recapture the joy and the magic of the original 'High School Musical' movie…and simultaneously re-imagine it completely?” said Gary Marsh, president and chief creative officer, Disney Channels Worldwide. "That’s like trying to solve a Rubik’s Cube blindfolded. And [executive producers Tim Federle and Oliver Goldstick ]– and this amazingly talented and diverse cast and crew – have done exactly that."

“We are truly excited about this extremely talented cast and the fresh and contemporary take on this globally beloved franchise,” said Agnes Chu, senior vice president of content, Disney+. “From the music and dance, to the characters and hilarious meta references, there is something here for fans of the originals, as well as people who are new to East High. It’s going to be an unforgettable viewing experience for Disney+ subscribers.”

Just to prepare for this I’m going to binge all the movies. Can’t wait!
