Ricky Geravis is making a comeback to the small screen after a long hiatus with After Life and we bring in all the details that you need to know.
Not only 'After Life' has been renewed for a second season, but Ricky Gervais is also making a comeback with the show. The first season of the show ran for six episodes and it was released on Netflix back on March 8, 2019. It is a very well-made comedy sitcom that features a whole lot of emotional and funny moments and it has been one of the best shows to come out in a while on Netflix. In an interview with DigitalSpy, Gervais said, "I have never had a reaction like this before. It's been insane. And heartwarming. But now I have to make sure the second season is even better so I'll probably have to work much harder than usual. Annoying really."
The Chief Content Officer of Netflix, Ted Sarandos quipped in, saying, "After Life has moved audiences from laughter to tears around the world and we are thrilled to announce that Ricky Gervais will be back with a second season on Netflix." This news comes in shortly after it was confirmed that Tony's story is far from being over and quickly he updated the fans saying that there is going to be a follow-up. He wrote, "Once again, I have to thank you from the bottom of my heart for all your amazing tweets about #AfterLife. I've never had a reaction like it. I have a spring in my step as I skip towards writing series 2."
The show has also been nominated for multiple awards all across the globe, including several Emmy nominations. Gervais writes, directs, and stars in this amazing dark comedy where he plays the role of depressed Tony who decides to let go of his good manners after the death of his wife. Tony said, "I can do and say what the f**k I want. And then when it all gets too much, I can always kill myself." Throughout the six episodes of the first season, Tony learns that everyone in the world is not holding a grudge against him and every single person in the world is dealing with some kind of pain or the other.
Gervais said, "I really would like to do a second series because I fell in love with the characters. I've got an idea of where it can go. And the second series is always better, usually because you know the actors [when you're writing for them]." When asked what are the future plans for the series, Gervais explained saying that there is a small clue hidden nicely at the end of the first season when Tony has a heart-to-heart with Ann. He tells her, "I'm gonna carry on saying and doing what I want, and punishing the world, but I'm gonna punish people who deserve it. Tony can still be an arsehole... and just enjoy it more!"
