Here Are The 15 Highest-Grossing Films At The Worldwide Box Office In 2021

There have been many smash-hit films that came out this year. After the whole world went under lockdown last year, streaming movies became the norm. Theatrical releases have only recently started again, and the box office has been recovering finally. As per Deadline, box office earnings for 2021 are projected at $20.2 billion. This is 52 percent down from the record-breaking 2019 but also 68 percent above the 2020 earnings. 

Here are the highest-grossing films this year, with two Chinese movies at the top of the list.

15. My Country, My Parents

My Country, My Parents, is the third installment of the four-part anthology drama Chinese film. It has four segments directed by four directors, Wu Jing, Zhang Ziyi, Xu Zheng, and Shen Teng, who also star in their own stories. The film is set in different periods ranging from the Second Sino-Japanese War in 1942 to a futuristic world in 2050. The film was released in China on September 30, 2021, to commemorate the 72nd anniversary of the establishment of the People's Republic of China. It was preceded by My People, My Country (2019) and My People, My Homeland (2020).

14. Cruella

This film is about the origin story of one of the most notorious Disney villains, Cruella de Vil. It follows young Estella's (Emma Stone) early days during the 1970s London punk rock revolution. She is a young grifter who transforms herself into the raucous, revenge-bent Cruella de Vil, along with a pair of thieves who appreciate her appetite for mischief.

13. Eternals

Marvel's Eternals features a new team of superheroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The Eternals are ancient aliens who have been living on Earth in secret for thousands of years. Following the events of Avengers: Endgame, an unexpected tragedy forces them out of the shadows to reunite against mankind's most ancient enemy, the Deviants.

12. A Quiet Place Part II

This is the sequel to the hit 2018 horror film A Quiet Place. Forced to venture into the unknown, they quickly realize that the creatures that hunt by sound are not the only threats that lurk beyond the sand path.
