Brie Larson is one of the hottest and most successful names in the entertainment industry right now and there is a good reason for it. She is already an Academy Award-winning actress, but even though she has been noted for some roles, her career got a real kick-start after she played the role of Captain Marvel in the MCU. Prior to this, she has been playing roles in movies like The Spectacular Now, 21 Jump Street, and Room. Next year, Larson is going to be 30 and given the fact that she already has a very successful career, and it will likely continue to soar, aging like a fine wine. Here are 19 lesser-known facts about Brie Larson. 

1. She is a big Super Mario Fan

Even though she is not a gamer by definition, she does enjoy games like Mario Bros. and Metroid. She might not be a gamer, but she definitely enjoys some good ol' school video games. 

2. She’s thought of quitting show business more than once

Even Brie Larson has had days when she has thought about giving up on her career when things got hard. But, thankfully, she has braved through the tough times and stuck by since she is pretty good at what she does. Even now, she has acknowledged the fact that there are still moments when she wonders what she might go with if she wasn’t acting.

3. Apart from being a brilliant actress, she is a professional singer as well

Larson has an amazing voice and has been singing for a while now as a professional. She has managed to fit her passion for singing with acting and it is a blessing for her fans, but she has agreed that it is difficult. 

4. Before becoming successful, she performed sketches with Jay Leno

Before making it big in the showbiz, Larson can say that she has performed with some pretty big names and that fact is not going to change anytime soon since she’s been starring with some very notable actors throughout her entire career.

5. There is no bad blood between her and Shailene Woodley

Larson and Shailene Woodley have grown to become close friends off camera, while they were shooting for 'The Spectacular Now' and they were actually up for the lead role in 'Room'. Before the movie was released, in a movie interview, Woodley said she hoped Larson could “change the world” with her performance and create a platform to explore the issue of violence against women.

6. Toni Collette is her hero

Brie Larson described Toni Collete as the person she idolizes and she recounted an audition or a role in a TV show with Collette but said that she was devastated when she got to know that she was rejected. The character Larson was aspiring to play was a girl struggling with her identity and she thought that was a role she was meant to play. But, her dreams did come true later on as she played the part of Collete's daughter in 'The United States of Tara'. 

7. Her peers also think she is a talented actress

When Larson played the role of Captain Marvel, she received praise from the audience and the critics alike. But, her co-star Jude Law praised Larson's work ethic, saying that she is fun and feisty and smart and she brought life to the character. 

8. She had a number of options if her acting career didn't work out

For some time, Larson tried out careers in photography, interior design, and even animal training. Maybe these are a few options she kept in case her acting career did not work out as well as it did right now.

If you check out Larson's Vevo account, you will see that back in 2005 she released an EP titled Finally Out of P.E. She chose the title because she was relieved to know that she got her record deal, and now she can finally get out of her physical education classes. One of the very few people who did not like her was her physical education teacher and since she was used to being the teacher’s pet, she couldn’t stand the class.

10. She changed her last name

Larson eventually got tired of people maligning her last name and changed it. Her actual surname is Desaulniers, but since people were mispronouncing it so horribly, she decided to change it. When she was a child, she had a doll named Kristen Larson and that’s how she came up with her last name.

11. She was homeschooled

As surprising as it sounds, Larson did not have high school experience and was home-schooled during these years. But, it is not as bad as it sounds and she still got to go around and did things occasionally but a lot of her time spent in education was out of her home.

Larson is not someone who is big about improvisation and she likes things being mapped and planned out. She is a person who prefers the old fashioned method, but, eventually, it is just a matter of how a person learns their craft.

13. She was cold toward Casey Affleck while handling him his Oscar

Even though not too many people watch the Academy Awards, but it was hard not to know about the event when Brie presented Casey with the award. She did not clap, didn't congratulate him, and was completely stone-faced. This could be because of the sexual allegations made against him and this was all she could do on stage. 

14. She is a fun team player

Larson pointed out that the creation of a character is the most fun during the creative process. Stating an example, she spoke about Don Jon when Larson and Joseph Gordon-Levitt consulted on what Larson’s character would be like day-to-day so that they can help figure out the minute details. Larson figured out that her character is going to be indifferent to anything and that is exactly why the character pushing her food around her plate during dinner scenes.

Larson says that even though she inspires change through her films, she is still baffled that people care about her personal opinions on topics. Larson said that it happened more after her Oscar win and still wonders why is opinion is more important. She also dislikes interviews for the same reason. 

16. She has tried her hand in directing too

Her direction debut came from the movie Unicorn Store, which premiered at TIFF in 2017. Apart from directing, she also starred in the movie and it tells the story of a young artist who is kicked out of art school and gets a job at a temp agency. Larson said that directing the movie had allowed her to get together a team of “real-life superheroes” and unite them for a common goal.

17. She is extremely hardworking

Larson is a person who takes her work very seriously and she gives her everything into the movies she is making. For Captain Marvel, it included nine months of physical training and flight training on Nellis Air Force Base. For training purposes, she got to talk with real-life superheroes Brigadier General Jeannie Leavitt, 57th Wing Commander and Larson described her as a badass pilot. 

18. She is of French-Canadian origin

Her father is French-Canadian and French is also her first language as she was homeschooled. As she grew older, she started learning English and even though she has forgotten French somewhat, she still remembers some of it. 

19. She is very passionate about Mycology

For those who don't know what mycology is, it is the study of mushrooms and fungi. Larson has studied this subject independently for years and she has acknowledged that this might be her strangest hobby.
