Cheerleading is a quintessential part of all high school stories in America. The popular girls are cheerleaders and the popular guys are jocks. Or that's how the shows and movies present it anyway. 

Cheerleading is a sport in itself that requires a whole lot of athleticism, maybe even more than the games the cheerleaders are rallying for on the sidelines. The teamwork, synchronization, focus required for cheerleading would make for a great premise for a sports drama.

1. Bring It On

This is perhaps the best-known film series about cheerleading. The first film came out in 2000 and was followed by five direct-to-video sequels and one upcoming Halloween-themed television film sequel.

In this 2002 Disney film, a young teacher inspires a group of girls from low-income families of Latin-American descent to form a dance troupe and compete for glory using their innate sense of rhythm.
