Despite a significant drop in viewership, the season was brought back to HBO.

Westworld is a dystopian science fiction neo-Western television series. It is based on the 1973 film of the same name as well as the film's 1976 sequel, Futureworld to some extent. The first film was written and directed by the author, Michael Crichton.

The series initially starts in Westworld, a fictional, technologically advanced Wild-West-themed amusement park. The park is hosted by androids programmed not to harm humans. The park caters to high-paying guests who are allowed to indulge their wildest fantasies within the park without fear of retaliation from the hosts. But all hell breaks loose when the robots start malfunctioning.

The series created by Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy currently has three seasons. Here's what you need to know about the future of the series:

Will There Be A Fourth Season Of Westworld?

The third season of the show was still in progress in 2020 when it was renewed for another season. Casey Bloys, president of HBO Programming stated: "From the western theme park to the technocratic metropolis of the near future, we’ve thoroughly enjoyed every twist and turn from the minds of master storytellers Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy. We can’t wait to see where their inspired vision takes us next." Despite a significant drop in viewership, the season was brought back to HBO.

What Will The Plot Of Westworld Season 4 Be?

In the third season, the dystopian setting expands to the real world. In the mid-21st century, people's lives are driven and controlled by a powerful artificial intelligence named Rehoboam. There were some interesting developments at the end of Season 3. "I think it’s a radical shift," Nolan had said about the third season. "What’s compelling and appealing about these characters is that they’re not human. As we said in the show, humans are bound by the same loops the hosts are, in some ways even smaller."

Thandiwe Newton who plays Maeve Millay in the show shared some insight about what to expect in the new season: "I don’t think it’s going to be as simple as Caleb just continues the work that Dolores is doing. Although why has Dolores put him in that position? Is she really that interested in humanity having a leader? Why? Is it just an experiment for her?"

Speaking about the creators of the show and their story-telling she added, "It’s because they are so connected to what their intention was in the beginning. They’re not swayed by audience appeal or fandom or any of that. They want to tell a story that they imagined a long time ago and they’re going to stick to it, and I love that."
