HBO's The Last Of Us Series Is Set To Be One Of The Most Expensive TV Shows Ever Made

The cost of HBO's The Last Of Us series has been revealed and it seems like the show is set to be one of the most expensive shows ever.

The Last Of Us

HBO is pulling out all the stops for its new The Last Of Us series.

According to a recent local news report from Alberta, Canada, HBO is spending tens of millions of dollars on each episode of The Last Of Us series.

With this kind of spend, the series is set to be one of the most expensive TV series to date.

The series is currently being filmed in Canada. The info about the show's budget came from an article about how the town of Fort Macleod has become a popular filming destination for many Hollywood projects.

Within the article, Damian Petti, president of the IATSE 212 labor union in Canada gave us a small idea of how much money HBO is spending on the series.

He said:

I cannot confirm the official budget numbers but will say it is likely the largest project shooting in Canada... This project well exceeds the eight figure per episode mark. so there is a multiplier effect on our economy in terms of its impact. There are hundreds of related businesses benefitting from the plethora of work.

The report did not give any exact amount spent on the series but that it is in the "hundreds of millions."

If this is true, the series is set to be among the most expensive TV series ever, on par with Game of Thrones and The Mandalorian.

What's even more interesting is the fact that Pedro Pascal is in every one of these projects.

It seems like Hollywood is continuing to bet big on the Chilean-American actor.

However, none of these projects are ready for the scale about to be set by Amazon's Lord of the Rings TV show. The show is set to surpass the others and become the most expensive TV show ever with a budget of around $1 billion.

The Last Of Us series is based on a video game by Naughty Dog and it follows a man and a young girl trying to survive in a world ravaged by a virus that turns people into deadly creatures. It stars Pedro Pascal as Joel and Bella Ramsey as Ellie.

There is currently no official release date for the HBO series as of now.
