About the plot of Shrinking

The plot is about a therapist who is utterly honest to his clients and leaves no stone unturned to turn the carpet over his clients with no remorse. The sheer honesty though problematic is shown to be the protagonist’s coping mechanism. Laird even crosses lines that would never be acceptable in real life. While Shrinking doesn't claim to represent therapy accurately, some viewers who are struggling with whether to seek therapy could potentially be dissuaded by watching a show about what a therapist, who likely shouldn't be practicing at all, really feels about his patients.

The controversial bit of the series

There are several concerning depictions in Shrinking, including one scene where Laird threatens to quit being the therapist of a woman he believes is a victim of domestic abuse unless she leaves her husband. Most of the criticism directed at Shrinking has been directed at its representation of treatment. Some of the views it gives may be considered offensive to the treatment and psychiatric industries. This is due to the show's suggestion that therapists might really benefit patients more if they were not constrained by ethics and rules. Nevertheless, Shrinking's fictitious and comic concept explains its incorrect portrayal of treatment.

The casting and announcement of season 2

Notwithstanding the criticism, many people still find the program interesting and delightful, and they understand that it should not be taken seriously. As a result, Shrinking will return for a second season in the future according to The Hollywood Reporter. Bill Lawrence and Brett Goldstein, who co-developed the program with Segel have stated that Shrinking will have three seasons. The pair is getting closer to making that dream a reality, as Apple TV+'s president of content, Matt Cherniss, expressed his joy at the Jason Segel and Harrison Ford starring series' renewal.
