The first season of Hanna was very well received. But was it recieved well enough to get second season?
Amazon's new Prime series 'Hanna' is the TV adaptation of the the 2011 movie of the same name which starred Saoirse Ronan. The show and movie follow the same plot of a young girl who is born to be a genetically advanced super-soldier as part of the CIA's Utrax program. However, Baby Hanna is then stolen by Erik Heller who then takes her deep into the Romanian forest. He trains her for 15 years in skills of combat and survival and tries to find a way to give her a normal life. But with the CIA on their tail, it becomes an uphill battle. The Amazon series stars Esme Creed-Miles as Hanna, Joel Kinnaman as her 'father' Erik Heller and Mireille Enos as CIA agent Marissa Wiegler. It was released to a lot of fanfare and managed a 7.6/10 rating on IMDB. But was it enough to get a second season? Let's explore.
Hanna has been officially renewed by Amazon Prime for a second season. The news came only two weeks after the release of season 1 which is proof that the series was very well-received. Swift renewals are pretty easy for Amazon as they aren't as many Prime Originals as, let's say, Netflix.
Albert Cheng, the co-head of Television, Amazon Studios said to Deadline, "Since it debuted only ten days ago, Hanna has had a tremendous response, and we’re thrilled with not only how it has performed for us on the service, but with the action-packed world David Farr has created for the series and the stellar cast, led by Esmé Creed-Miles, Mireille Enos, and Joel Kinnaman. We’re excited to give fans a chance to see Hanna continue her journey on Amazon."
Amazon has already scheduled Hanna season 2 to be released sometime in 2020. The exact date, in 2020 has yet to be revealed but a Spring or Summer release date seems most probable. Season 1 was announced by Amazon in May 2017 and began filming in March 2018. It was released almost exactly a year after filming began. And given that the cast and crew are already set we can expect a much faster production time.
We can expect some crazy showdowns between Hanna and her sisters. In season 1, Hanna's attempt to save her sisters failed when all of them, except Clara (Yasmin Monet Prince), opted to leave with the US military. This could set up a lot of conflict between Hanna and her sisters and may increase the stakes by a lot. Hanna and Clara will definitely have a hard time facing off against an army of other genetically enhanced super soldiers of the Utrax Regenesis program. It's through season 2 that the potential of the series can be explored even more, especially when it comes to hardcore bloody action.
We can expect all the major characters to make returns for season 2. Esme Creed-Miles is all set to return as Hanna as well as Joel Kinnaman as Erik Heller, Mireille Enos as special agent Marissa Wiegler and Khalid Abdalla as Jerome Sawyer.
I quite enjoyed season 1 ! Looking forward to season 2 of Hanna. I really liked seeing the character of Hanna grow and face all kinds of challenges, physical and emotional. Joel Kinnaman is great. Mireille Enos plays a very determined agent out to capture Hanna. pic.twitter.com/TKPgoUakVi— Oneiromancer (@journeymanN7) May 25, 2019

I hope that Hanna and Clara remain a team into season 2. They seem to understand one another in a way that others cannot. #hanna— Ladybuglizzie (@sagevalentine) May 22, 2019
