Netflix's newest addition to its Halloween lineup consists of eight episodes in its first installment and even though there's a lot to absorb from the first few episodes we are already longing for its second season. The fantasy-drama genre tells a very interesting story so much so that we are interested to know if there will be a second season here is everything we know so far...

Has Half Bad: The Bastard & The Devil Himself Been Renewed For Season 2?

"The Bastard Son and The Devil Himself," has unfortunately met its end on Netflix. This show was recently added to the list of series that won't continue, and this is pretty disappointing news.

The series premiered on October 28th, 2022, and was well-received by both viewers and critics. However, the news that fans dreaded came on December 9th, 2022, when the production company Imaginarium tweeted about the show's cancellation.

Imaginarium stated, "We're really proud of 'Half Bad' and it got great reviews. We're sad to not continue, but working with such a talented cast and crew on this show was amazing."

The author, Sally Green, also expressed her feelings on this announcement by saying, "I'm sorry that Netflix won't be renewing the show. I'm thankful to everyone involved who loved being part of this special project."

The lead actor, Jay Lycurgo, also shared his thoughts, saying, "There was so much more to tell in the story. Me, Emilien, and Nadia felt emotional about the show's end. Not about the decision itself. These things happen. But we're more emotional about not being able to continue the story of Nathan, Gabriel, and Annalise. Joe and Sally created an incredible world and these characters had more to share. But life goes on."

Despite the disappointment, the show's creator, Joe Barton, had plenty of ideas for a second season. He mentioned, "We've planned a second series. There are storylines ready, so we're prepared if Netflix decides to go ahead."

Why Was Half Bad: The Bastard & The Devil Himself Season 2 Canceled?

Netflix usually doesn't give specific reasons, but it often comes down to ratings not meeting expectations. The timing is also important, as Netflix typically waits about a month after a show's release to decide whether it's gained enough viewers for renewal.

Even though "The Bastard Son" received positive reviews and was in the top 10 most-watched shows in over 70 countries on Netflix, it didn't maintain that viewership for the critical first month in any of those places.

Netflix's Peter Friedlander clarified that the Top 10 list helps people discover shows, but it's not the sole factor in renewal decisions. "The Top 10 is about popularity in that moment," he said.

This abrupt cancellation indicates that the show didn't match up to the strong starts of some other new shows on Netflix of that year, like "Heartstopper" and "Wednesday." As much as fans loved the series and as loyal as the fanbase became, those first 28 days are crucial, and unfortunately, it seems the show didn't capture enough attention in that time.

The show follows the story of its protagonist Nathan Byrn, an illegitimate son of a dangerous witch, plus a host of other supernatural teenagers. The writer of the Netflix series describes the show as a spiritual adaptation of the book. The show was supposed to be a film, but then they changed their minds as they made some big changes from the book series. The award-winning trilogy is set in modern-day England and is about warring factions of witches who live in the world of humans alongside them. Netflix said that the series will be a mix of "magic, sarcasm, banter, potions in zip-lock bags, hunters, romance, loyalty, and unbreakable friendship…it’s a truly f****d up ride."
