'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3': Everything We Know So Far

Marvel finally unveils the release date for the third installment of the 'Guardians of the Galaxy' film series.

The development for the third installment of the 'Guardians of the Galaxy' film series took a snag after James Gunn was fired by Disney in 2018 over old, offensive tweets.

Gunn wrote and directed 'Guardians of the Galaxy' and its sequel 'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2'. He was also an executive producer for 'Avengers: Infinity War' and 'Endgame.' Gunn took up DC's 'The Suicide Squad' after being fired. Now that he is back in the Marvel Universe, 'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3' will finally pick up, with production set to begin soon.

Here's everything we know about 'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3'.

When Will 'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3' Release?

Release Date: May 5, 2023

James Gunn's 'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3' is coming out in theaters on May 5, 2023. Marvel Studious recently revealed the film's release date, alongside the other upcoming MCU movies on a video announcement.

Gunn has confirmed that filming for 'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3' will begin sometime this year.

What Is The Plot Of 'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3'?

Most of the plot details for the third film are under wraps. However, James Gunn teases that the upcoming installment is going to be huge.

"Our designers [and] visual development geniuses are busy creating new, fantastic designs of other worlds [and] alien beings [for GotG Vol. 3]. I'm not sure the galaxy is big enough for all this magic." Gunn wrote on Twitter, adding: "This. One. Is. Huge. I'm excited."

'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3' will continue to follow the story of the intergalactic misfits, who saved the galaxy from Ronan the Accuser and Ego in the previous installment.

We already anticipated that the film will take place at least four years following the events of the 'Avengers: Endgame.'

During the epic battle, a more lethal version of Gamora from 2014 (long before she met the Guardians), was brought into recent times. The confused Gamora disappeared after the battle, perhaps, not wanting to get associated with people she doesn't know (yet).

Gamora- Guardians Of The Galaxy

'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3' will likely chronicle the search for Gamora. Zoe Saldana has already expressed her interest in exploring an evil version of Gamora in the upcoming Guardians movie.

On the other hand, with the long gap between 'Endgame' and 'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3', the threequel may also have to pick up after the events of other upcoming Marvel films like 'Thor: Love and Thunder' for more proximity in the timeline.

We're expecting to get more details as the film goes into production.

'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3' Cast: Who Are In It?

We're expecting our regulars Chris Pratt (Star-Lord), Zoe Saldana (Gamora), Karen Gillan (Nebula), Bradley Cooper (Rocket Raccoon), Vin Diesel (Groot), and Pom Klementieff (Mantis) to be back in 'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3'.

Elizabeth Debicki's character Ayesha was last seen plotting against the Guardians in the post-credit scene in the sequel. So, there's a chance that she might also return.

The actress is very keen on reprising her role. She tells ComicBook:

“I want to, I want to. I love [Ayesha]. I actually, really, really loved playing her, and I loved making that movie and working with everybody and James, and it was… it was a really fun job for me. So I hope so.

Dave Bautista has been very vocal about Marvel's disinterest in giving his character Drax a sequel. However, we are still hoping to see him portray the fan-favorite character again.

Will There Be More 'Guardians of the Galaxy' Film In The Future?

Back in 2017, Gunn has revealed his plans to wrap up the plot for the movie series in the upcoming film.

"I think we're going to come to an epic conclusion of who the Guardians are and why they were bought together, and I can't wait to tell that story to the people," Gunn told Variety.

We don't know how much of the initial plan has changed through the years.
