'Guardian: The Lonely and Great God' Season 2: Everything We Know So Far

This is a live-update article and it will be updated as new details about Guardian: The Lonely and Great God Season 2 come our way. This is what we know so far.

'Guardian: The Lonely and Great God'

'Guardian: The Lonely and Great God' premiered on tvN in 2016 and went on to be one of the most successful Kdramas ever created.

The Korean drama series starring Gong Yoo is the fifth highest-rated Korean drama in cable television history.

The series was so popular that countless Guardian merchandise was sold.

With the series' immense success, can we expect a follow-up season? Let's find out.

Will There Be 'Guardian: The Lonely and Great God' Season 2?

As of this writing, there are still no announcements regarding the renewal of 'Guardian: The Lonely and Great God' for Season 2, and we're likely not to hear about it at all.

Unlike Western shows, Kdramas often do not renew shows despite massive success. They have great respect for the art of storytelling and refuse to extend a series just for the sake of money.

In 2017, Gong Yoo tweeted:

"Sad to say there will be no Season 2 for (Goblin) to happen. Some stories are always better to end as it is.”

The series premiered on December 2, 2016, and ended on January 21, 2017.

The drama was written by popular and highly acclaimed writer Kim Eun-sook under Studio Dragon. Among Kim Eun-sook's popular Kdrama series are Lovers in Paris (2004), On Air (2008), Secret Garden (2010), A Gentleman's Dignity (2012), The Heirs (2013), Descendants of the Sun (2016).

It's unclear whether Kim Eun-sook's interested in revisiting the characters and story of 'Guardian: The Lonely and Great God' for Season 2 in the future.

Her schedule is always full. One of her latest projects was 'The King: Eternal Monarch,' which ran from 17 April 2020 to 12 June 2020.

What Is 'Guardian: The Lonely and Great God' All About And What Is The Possible Plot Of Season 2?

The series tells the tale of Kim Shin, a skilled general who was wrongly accused of treason and executed by a jealous young king. Following his death, Kim Shin was cursed by a higher power to live eternally and watch his loved ones die as punishment for his past actions. He becomes a Dokkaebi, or Goblin, and the only way to end his suffering is to find his bride. Kim Shin spends 900 years searching for the human bride who can break his curse of immortality. The first season ended with an ambiguous conclusion that left viewers with various interpretations. It remains unclear if Kim Shin can finally die after falling in love with his human bride, Ji Eun Tak. If the show were to return for a second season, we could expect to see the continuation of Kim Shin and Ji Eun Tak's love story.

The show is unlikely to return for season 2, so we are no longer expecting to see the majority of the cast members come back.
