Will the Goblin and his bride's eternal love continue to season 2?
Guardian: The Lonely and Great God premiered on tvN in 2016 and went on to be one of the most successful Kdramas ever created.
The Korean drama series starring Gong Yoo is the fifth highest-rated Korean drama in cable television history.
The series was so popular that countless Guardian merchandise was sold.
With the series' immense success, can we expect a follow-up season? Let's find out.
As of this writing, there are still no announcements regarding the renewal of Guardian: The Lonely and Great God for Season 2.
The series premiered on December 2, 2016, and ended on January 21, 2017.
The drama was written by popular and highly acclaimed writer Kim Eun-sook under Studio Dragon. Among Kim Eun-sook's popular Kdrama series are Lovers in Paris (2004), On Air (2008), Secret Garden (2010), A Gentleman's Dignity (2012), The Heirs (2013), Descendants of the Sun (2016).
It's unclear whether Kim Eun-sook's interested to revisit the characters and story of Guardian: The Lonely and Great God for Season 2.
Her schedules are always full. One of her latest projects was The King: Eternal Monarch which ran from 17 April 2020 to 12 June 2020.
The series follows the story of an unbeatable general, Kim Shin, who was framed as a traitor and killed by a young king who's jealous of his abilities.
After his death, Kim Shin, was cursed by the almighty to become an immortal to witness the death of his loved ones as a punishment for all the people he killed while he was a general. He then becomes a Dokkaebi (Goblin).
The only person who could end Kim Shin's suffering is the Goblin's bride.
Kim Shin spent 900 years waiting for the human bride that will free him from the curse of immortality.
Season 1 had an open-ending which was interpreted in different ways by its viewers. The ending did not clarify whether Kim Shin's finally allowed to die after meeting and ultimately falling in love with his human bride.
If the show ever gets renewed for season 2, we can expect to see a continuation of Kim Shin and his bride Ji Eun Tak's love story.
Season 2 is not confirmed yet, but assuming the show gets renewed for the new season, we're expecting to see the majority of the cast members to return.
Gong Yoo will reprise his role as Kim Shin slash Goblin. Kim Go-eun will reprise her role as the Goblin's bride, Ji Eun-tak.
Lee Dong-wook will come back as Wang Yeo aka Grim Reaper / Kim Woo Bin.
Joining them is Yoo In-na as Sunny, also known as Kim Sun, owner of a chicken restaurant who hires Ji Eun-tak and the lover of Grim Reaper in the past life.
We're also expecting to see Yook Sung-jae as Yoo Deok-hwa, a close friend to the Goblin and Grim Reaper.
