Gerard Butler must race against time to save his family in an upcoming asteroid disaster film.
A disaster movie starring Gerard Butler is set to hit the theaters next month, and boy, this is just the distraction that this pandemic-stricken world needs.
Greenland is set to take the audience amidst the chaos as people try to head for the bunkers for safety.
Here's everything you need to know about Greenland.
Greenland is a disaster film complete with all the adrenaline-inducing tricks. It follows John Garrity (Gerard Butler) as he tries to bring his family to a group of bunkers in Greenland before a deadly comet annihilates humanity.
The comet named Clarke is set to break into fragments and will hit the earth in unpredictable places, causing massive disasters. The bunkers are the only remaining hope to survive.
Greenland is written by Chris Sparling, who is also known for his work on the 2010 thriller Buried and the 2015 Gus Van Sant movie The Sea of Trees.
Speaking to Discussing Film, the screenwriter gave a contrasting description of the film.
"It's a big movie, definitely a big movie," Sparling said.
"[But] at the heart of that is a very small movie. It is a movie about an impending asteroid strike. It's not Armageddon. It's not that type of movie at all. It's more like Bayona's The Impossible where we look through the specific lens of a family ... we care about this family trying to survive," Sparling added.
The film will be directed by Ric Roman Waugh, who previously worked with Butler in the 2019 movie Angel Has Fallen.
Greenland is set to hit the US theaters on August 14, 2020.
Gerard Butler (who's known for his role as King Leonidas in 300), will play John Garrity, a father who will desperately try to bring his family to Greenland.
Morena Baccarin (who played Vanessa in Deadpool) will star as Allison Garrity, John's wife.
Scott Glenn will play as Clayton, a friend who will help the Garrity family go to Greenland.
Also joining the cast members are Andrew Bachelor as Conrad and David Denman as Ralph.
