The 'Godzilla: King of the Monsters' and 'Kong: Skull Island' sequel will be out in March.
Fans of the epic monsters Godzilla and King Kong are in for a treat this year! The highly-anticipated trailer for Godzilla Vs Kong has dropped! This is the fourth installment to the MonsterVerse and a sequel to Godzilla: King of the Monsters and Kong: Skull Island. According to UNILAD, the iconic crossover stars Alexander Skarsgård (Nathan Lind), Millie Bobby Brown (Madison Russell), Rebecca Hall (Ilene Andrews), Brian Tyree Henry (Bernie Hayes), Shun Oguri (Ren Serizawa), Eiza González (Maya Simmons), Jessica Henwick (unknown), Julian Dennison (Josh Valentine), Kyle Chandler (Dr. Mark Russell), and Demián Bichir (Walter Simmons).
The synopsis of the film states: In a new world where man and monster now coexist, Monarch must lead the way to a prosperous future alongside the Titans, keeping humanity in check. However, rival factions that want to manipulate the Titans for war begin to rise under the guise of a nefarious conspiracy, threatening to wipe out all life on the planet. Meanwhile, on Skull Island, strange seismic activity draws the attention of Godzilla and Kong alike. According to the trailer, it looks like King Kong has grown A LOT since we last saw him in Kong: Skull Island. Cinema Blend reports that unlike what took place in 1962’s King Kong vs. Godzilla, this time around, there's going to be a clear winner who's going to come out on top of this epic battle!
The film's director, Michael Dougherty, who also co-wrote Godzilla vs. Kong hinted that audiences might be watching a "potential underdog fight." He elaborated, "We’re looking at an almost David vs. Goliath situation. Because everyone, the moment you say Godzilla’s going to fight Kong, your first reaction is Kong doesn’t stand a chance. Godzilla’s got his radioactive breath, et cetera, et cetera. But then if you really take the time to look at Kong as a character, it’s like, okay, in Skull Island he was an adolescent, so he was still growing. So who knows how big he is since the 1970s when they first met him?"
I've liked and loved all 3 of Michael Dougherty's directorial films. All of them offered something different and, as an aspiring filmmaker, it's always inspiring to see a indie director rise to make a huge blockbuster. It's a dream come true and I'm so glad he went there. https://t.co/9pIIoT9Vzs— Yoko Higuchi (@resistance0101) January 19, 2021
Dougherty told Bloody Disgusting that Kong also had "brains" on his side. "Kong is extremely intelligent," the director noted. "As a primate, he’s a tool-user. So he’s got speed, he’s got agility, he might have some good size," adding "And I like a good underdog battle," comparing this fight to another iconic heavyweight battle. "You know, it’s like watching Rocky go up against Ivan Drago. It seems like it’s unfair but clearly, this means the underdog might have a few surprises," he stated.
I think it's pretty obvious that Godzilla will be the one to fall given we've only had one Kong movie so far and this will be Godzilla's THIRD movie. Still gonna be awesome to see these two titans throwing down though 👀— 𝙈𝘼𝙏𝙏 (@_MrMattWhelan_) January 21, 2021
Godzilla vs Kong will be available on HBO Max and in US theatres on March 26. Watch the trailer below:
