Season 2 ended in an unexpected death that could put Malu and her friends in great trouble for season 3.
Girls From Ipanema, previously known as Most Beautiful Thing, is a Brazilian drama series on Netflix that's highly-celebrated for its gripping plot.
The story revolves around Malu, a young woman abandoned by her husband after moving to Rio de Janeiro to supposedly start a restaurant together.
After taking all the money and leaving her in a strange new city, Malu found a new life and love with the rise of bossa nova in Rio.
Season 2 ended in a huge cliffhanger, putting Malu and her friends in potentially deep trouble.
Let's find out what's in store for the series.
As of this writing, Netflix is yet to renew Girls From Ipanema for season 3. The series premiered on Netflix worldwide on March 22, 2019, with 7 episodes, and received a renewal for season 2 on May 13, 2019.
Season 2 dropped on the streaming platform on June 19, 2020, with 6 episodes. Since then, Netflix became quiet regarding the show's status for season 3, but we're expecting announcements soon. We'll keep you posted for updates.
Netflix is yet to renew the show for season 3. If the show receives the go signal and starts filming before the end of the year, then we're likely to get season 3 episodes around the second or third quarter next year.
The series only had 7 and 6 episodes on the previous seasons. If they'll drop the same number of episodes for the next installment (assuming they get renewed soon), then there's a good chance they could drop season 3 around June or July 2021.
Of course, potential delays cannot be disregarded with the Coronavirus pandemic still wreaking havoc.
Warning: Season 2 spoilers ahead.
If there's one thing that Girls From Ipanema season 2 is clear about, that is that season 3 is going to be intense.
Augusto's trial was the highlight of season 2. The testimonies of Malu, Adélia, and Ligia's sister-in-law, Thereza, were ignored by the patriarchal Brazillian court. So despite the girls' sworn statements revealing Augusto beating and raping Ligia before killing her, he managed to get four years on parole and walked free.
But justice is served differently. Towards the end of season 2, we saw Augusto's dead body floating in the swimming pool.
With Augusto's death, we're expecting Malu and the girls to try their best to clear their names and prove they have nothing to do with the incident. Malu will have to work hard to avoid getting pinned on the murder after her public confrontation with Augusto. Augusto threatened to close her club, to which she replied she's no longer afraid of him, adding he must be scared of her instead.
But then almost all of the characters involved have motives to kill Augusto. It's up to season 3 to deliver all the dramas and wrap things up in the overarching plot.
Nothing is confirmed yet, but we're likely to see leading cast members reprise their roles for season 3.
Maria Casadevall as Maria Luiza "Malu" Carone, Pathy Dejesus as Adélia Araújo, Fernanda Vasconcellos as Lígia Soares, Mel Lisboa as Thereza Soares, Leandro Lima as Francisco "Chico" Carvalho, Ícaro Silva as Capitão, Alexandre Cioletti as Nelson Soares, Gustavo Machado as Roberto, and Larissa Nunes as Ivone Araújo among others.
Gustavo Vaz could also return as Augusto Soares through flashbacks as they try to solve the mystery behind his death.
The show is yet to secure a renewal from Netflix. But if they manage to squeeze production for June 2021 release, then we're expecting to see a new trailer around May. Netflix often drops trailers a month before a show's release.
Here's the season 2 trailer for the meantime.
