The 'Ugly Truth' actor recently shared how he spent his 50th doing something different.
Gerard Butler may have turned 50 back in November 2019 but he only recently shared how he celebrated his big day. Who doesn't love a hunky celebrity doing his bit to help the environment? According to The Daily Mail, the 300 actor spoke to Total Film Magazine, saying "I'm not a birthday party guy. I've often, on my birthday, at 7 pm, said 'okay, let's have dinner'. And everybody is told with 15 minutes to spare. But this time, I actually did a big event in Costa Rica and brought loads of friends down. And it was very, very powerful. We brought down a lot of spiritual people, a lot of performers. We did a lot of environmental stuff, like releasing sea turtles out into the ocean. It was such a mix of so many things, I'm so glad I did it."

The now 51-year-old actor also participated in an event called Envision Festival while in Costa Rica. According to ET Canada, the festival is “inspired by and inspiring the positive collective consciousness of all who are involved for the betterment of ourselves and of the planet.” The event aims to bring people together “through music, art and sacred movement in one of the most gorgeous natural settings on the planet” to “recharge and revitalize our souls to help us both handle the challenges and realize the opportunities of our rapidly changing world.” The Scottish actor himself described the event as a “mini Burning Man but it feels a little less crazy and a little more spiritual” in a video with Envision co-founder Stephen Brooks from Nov. 2019.
As for what he's doing on screen, Butler spoke about his latest role in the action flick Greenland to Yahoo Movies UK adding that he probably wouldn't survive a real-life disaster. In the movie, Gerard plays someone who flees a planet-destroying comet. But he joked to the outlet, “I have the heart. I definitely have the heart and, I think, the courage. I just don't know if I have the intelligence or the talent. Whenever I make these movies and you have these ideas that the character does, I'm always like 'I don't think I would've thought of that, that's pretty clever'.” He also spoke of how grateful he was to work with the director Ric Roman Waugh after he helmed the third Mike Banning movie Angel Has Fallen in 2019.
The Ugly Truth star said, “I met him many years ago about another film and we said we were going to work together. I loved how deep he went into character and how he allowed the rest of the story to take place through the eyes of that character, who an audience is so invested in. And I knew he was gonna push me. He did that with Mike Banning when we made him an addict and all over the place. Then Greenland was a perfect fit: to be able to play a regular father and husband who is not a perfect guy. He has a lot of sins to make up for, which is a brave start to a big Hollywood movie."
