After more than six months of waiting, Netflix ES has confirmed that the Spanish crime thriller Gangs of Galicia (also known as Clanes in Spanish territories) will return for a second season. The show debuted on Netflix in June of last year.
In case you missed it, the episode was about a woman’s slain father who later turns out to have had a secret double life. She infiltrates a Galician drug cartel in order to get close to its leader in an attempt to get revenge.
In addition to showcasing what’s coming up in Spain over the next year, including Aitana: Metamorphosis, Carlos Alcaraz: My Way, A Ghost in Battle, Turn of the Tide season 2, and Olympo, the announcement of the renewal for Gangs of Galicia was a relative afterthought at the Next on Netflix event in Madrid, where journalists and influencers tuned in for the US announcements.
Diego Ávalos, vice president of content for Spain, Portugal, and the Nordics, discussed their forthcoming slate, which includes season two of Gangs of Galicia. “We profoundly believe in stories that connect, inspire, and reflect unique voices in every corner of our country, with a unique mission: to entertain audiences.”
Spain was the strongest region, where the show spent a total of 11 weeks in the Netflix weekly top 10s, out of 82 regions. Additionally, the show received 72.4 million viewing hours, or 13.9 million views, and spent five weeks in the top 10 non-English TV shows worldwide. When compared to other Spanish releases during the first month, it ranks somewhat lower than Bandidos and Breathless but higher than Iron Reign and The Hijacking of Flight 601.
