The Teton County Coroner's Office revealed during a press conference on October 12th the cause of Gabby Petito's death. According to the coroner's report, the 22-year-old influencer died of strangulation. It was also reported that she had been dead for up to three to four weeks before her body was found.

Teton County Coroner Dr. Brent Blue confirmed to the media that Petito was not pregnant, debunking the rumors

The influencer was first reported missing on September 11th by her parents. She had gone on a cross-country road trip with her fiancé, Brian Laundrie. When Laundrie returned home to Florida alone, her parents became suspicious and made the report.

Petito's parents reportedly hadn't spoken to her since late August so it makes sense that she may have been dead for up to three to four weeks. The last time her parents spoke to her she was with Laundrie in Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming. It was there that her body was later found.

The FBI is currently on the hunt for Brian Laundrie after he was named a person of interest. He went missing from his North Port, Fla., home. However, on September 23rd, a federal arrest warrant was issued for Laundrie after a grand jury indictment stated he "knowingly and with intent to defraud, used one or more unauthorized access devices," referring to a debit card and bank account, between Aug. 30 and Sept. 1.

During a memorial Petito's stepfather, Jim Schmidt told reporters:

We're just hoping that through our tragedy losing Gabby, that in the future, some good can come out of it, that we can help other people who may be in a similar situation. What can we do to help people?

Her father, Joseph Petito, added:

We need positive stuff to come through this tragedy that happened. We can't let her name be taken in vain. We need positive stuff.
