Forever Season 2: Everything We Know So Far

Showrunner and executive producer Mara Brock Akil adapted Judy Blume’s classic tale of young love, Forever, for Netflix, which debuted on May 8. At the time of its 1975 release, the original story was very controversial due to its realistic depiction of s*x and relationships among young people.

About fifty years later, however, Forever is a wonderful fit for our day, when many of the same problems with connection and self-discovery still exist. Will Forever get a second season? Here’s everything we know so far

Has Forever Been Renewed For Season 2 By Netflix?

Fans rejoice! Forever received a second season renewal from Netflix on May 14. Brock Akil posted a video of herself dancing on Instagram along with the comment, “My Mood is Renewed!” to convey the happy news.

Brock Akil stated that she was open to a second season in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. “There’s absolutely room for that,” she shared. “In this art form, I don’t make it for myself. I’m making it for an audience. I believe that the audience wants character-driven, complex love stories. If the audience wants more, I want more. Let’s go do it.”

What Could Happen In Forever Season 2?

The first season reimagines the protagonists and their own struggles while essentially covering the core plot of Blume’s book. The first season takes place in Los Angeles in 2019. Brock Akil talked about how having Keisha and Justin, the main characters, be young Black teenagers altered the concerns she had in mind as she was writing their story in an interview with EW.

“For young women, we’re worried about pregnancy primarily disrupting our future,” Brock Akil said. “For a Black mother raising a Black boy, I’m most concerned with: Is he going to live in this modern era?”

The novel revolves around s*x and aims to present exploration in a positive light.

“Keisha was his [Justin’s] journey through that to find what desire feels like,” Brock Akil said. “He was doing the best he can with what he’s got, but now that he knows what he wants, he needs to figure out who he is outside of Keisha.”

After determining their college plans don’t align, Justin and Keisha broke up at the end of the season. While Justin takes a pause and postpones his entrance to Northwestern to explore music, Keisha leaves for Howard University. In a hopeful and sad moment, they do run into each other at a CVS where Justin works.

Although they might reunite in a season two, Brock Akil seemed more interested in the two teenagers’ self-discoveries as they enter early adulthood.

“What I love about the ending and the complexity is that love is intact,” Brock Akil explained. “Though they broke up to go their separate ways to embrace more of who they are, they did it in love.”

If they reconcile, it “will be love,” she continued.

“I’m really excited about young people showing all of us the way in terms of how to transition from relationships without it having to be destructive,” she continued. “We don’t need any more of that.”

Who Would Be In The Cast Of Forever Season 2?

It is anticipated that Lovie Simone and Michael Cooper Jr., the show’s stars, would return as Keisha and Justin, the primary characters. Xosha Roquemore, Karen Pittman, Wood Harris, Marvin Lawrence Winans III, Barry Shabaka Henley, Niles Fitch, and Ali Gallo were among the other regular cast members.
