Fast and Furious 9: Everything We Know So Far

Fast and Furious 9: Everything We Know So Far

The ninth installment of the action film series brings a lot of surprises.

We were supposed to get treated to racing scenes, set to defy the laws of physics, in 'Fast and Furious 9' last year.

However, even Dom and his crew can't stop a global pandemic that put the rest of the world on lockdowns.

The good thing, though, is we know that 'Fast and Furious 9' is now 100% complete and ready for release.

Here are the latest updates on the film.

When Will 'Fast and Furious 9' Release?

Current release date as of this writing: May 28, 2021.

'Fast and Furious 9' was supposed to hit the theaters in May 2020 but got delayed due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

"It's become clear that it won't be possible for all of our fans around the world to see the film this May. While we know there is disappointment in having to wait a little while longer, this move is made with the safety of everyone as our foremost consideration," the announcement back in March 2020 read.

Initially, the film got pushed for April 2, 2021, release, but this was delayed further to May 28, 2021.

'Fast and Furious 9' Plot: What Is It All About?

Thanks to the trailer, we now have a clear idea of what the upcoming film will be all about.

The ninth installment of the 'Fast and Furious' film series will see Dom Toretto (Vin Diesel) trying to live a normal and quiet life with Letty (Michelle Rodriguez) and his son, little Brian.

However, Dom is bound with his dangerous history, and soon he faces a threat that will force him to confront the sins of his past to save those he loves most.

Dom comes face to face with his forsaken brother, Jakob (John Cena), who's asked by Cipher for help in taking Dom and his crew down.

Jakob is up with a world-shattering plot prompting Dom to enlist the help of his crew to try to stop his brother from his sinister plans.

Speaking to Total Film, Diesel further explained what the upcoming film is all about.

"The theme that we've been playing with up until this point has been the family that you create with people from all walks of life, the family that is not blood," Diesel said.

He added: "What makes the story of Fast 9 so fascinating is how that altruistic concept could neglect the family defined by blood. That's where this story goes."

Will There Be More 'Fast and Furious' Films In The Future?

Before all of these delays, the plan was to release the 10th and supposedly final film in April 2021.

This obviously can't happen anymore. Vin Diesel expressed his wishes to get a two-part finale to the series.

Long story short, Diesel's wish is granted. The series is reported to now end with two more movies that will have one overarching story.

The report made F9 costar Chris 'Ludacris' Bridges happy. Instead of getting sad knowing that the film series is about to end, the actor prefers to see how long the ride lasted.

"Personally, I thought we were going to end on 10, but I'm not at all sad about it because you got to think about it, I came out in 2 Fast 2 Furious. We never knew we would get a callback from 5, now I've been in 5, 6, 7, 8, 9," he told The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

"And now they're telling me there's going to be two more? I'm happy! To hell with being sad, don't be sad! I'm very happy."

Is There A 'Fast and Furious 9' Official Trailer?

Yes, there is! The trailer dropped early last year, in preparation for what's supposed to be May 2020 release.

Fasten your seatbelts and watch this gravity-defying trailer below.

'Fast and Furious 9' Cast: Who Are Returning?

Most of the main cast are reprising their roles. That includes Vin Diesel as Dom, Michelle Rodriguez as Letty, Chris 'Ludacris' Bridges as Tej, and Tyrese Gibson as Roman, among others.

Jordana Brewster is also back as Dom's sister Mia, while Nathalie Emmanuel is also confirmed to return as Ramsey.

Of course, the biggest addition to this outing's cast is John Cena, who will be playing Dom's vengeful brother, Jakob.

Charlize Theron is also returning to play Cipher, while Helen Mirren is also coming back as Shaw's mother, Magdalene.

While we all assumed that Han (played by Sung Kang) died in Fast & Furious 6's post-credits scene, the new F9 trailer reveals that he is coming back.

We still don't know how it's possible, but we're expecting his return to make sense once we see the whole film.

To top the list, Diesel also teased about a major cameo and a "big surprise" in 'Fast and Furious 9'. We will be watching out for that top-secret casting.
