The MCU's Fantastic Four Reboot Reportedly Planned For 2022

Its no secret that the Walt Disney Company bought 20th Century Fox and now a new world of crossovers has been made possible.

New reports are stating the Fantastic Four: the Human Torch, the Thing, Mr. Fantastic and the Invisible Woman will be joining the MCU effectively expanding the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Rumors state that Marvel Studios and Kevin Feige have carded 2022 as the release date.

The Fantastic Four did not perform well the last time they visited the big screen under director Josh Trank raking in only $26.2 million dollars on the opening weekend. The cast of 2015's Fantastic Four included Miles Telling as Mr. Fantastic, Kate Mara playing the Invisible Woman, Michael B. Jordan before Black Panther portraying Johnny Storm and Jamie Bell as the Thing. The movie allegedly flamed out for three major reasons. The top reason was there were no recognizable/big movie stars in it. Another reason was that the reviews of the movie were worse than everyone could have imagined and lastly because not every vaguely recognizable comic book series can sustain a four-part movie franchise.

Now with Marvel Studios reclaiming the characters and Peyton Reid, the director of Ant-Man and the Wasp pitching a reboot. The movie may be getting a second chance to crush the box office and match the success of its comic book with the possibility of joining the rest of the MCU in crossovers now viable.

Peyton Reed, who is going to be the director of Fantastic Four had this to say to ComicBook

Well, listen: as a fan, I certainly find that intriguing, because in the comics realm, the Fantastic Four are the crown jewels of the Marvel Universe. They are the first family of Marvel.

I think there is a version of Fantastic Four that has yet to be rendered in the movies that would really, really excite me, and I certainly think there are at least six different ways to introduce Fantastic Four into the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a really satisfying way.

Peyton revealed that his reboot is likely to take place in the 1960's and is NOT going to be an origin story. However, Marvel has not confirmed the release of the new Fantastic Four but has confirmed that they will be releasing 3 films in 2022: Captain Marvel 2 and Guardians of the Galaxy vol 3. The third slot is still open and might just be Fantastic Four.
