After a successful and well-received season 1, will the dark high school K-drama series return for season 2?
Extracurricular is a South Korean Netflix Originals drama series that gained notoriety from the binge-watching community when it launched amidst the pandemic.
The crime drama series directed by Kim Jin-min and starring Kim Dong Hee featured 10 pulse-racing episodes that ended in a bloody cliffhanger.
Let's find out what's in store for the series
Netflix is yet to renew Extracurricular for season 2. The K-series landed on the streaming platform on April 29, 2020, however, it's renewal status remains unknown as of this writing.
Netflix often takes at least a month before deciding whether to renew a show or not. With thousands of titles released in the platform, delays in renewal can be expected.
With no renewal announced yet, all we could do for the meantime is speculate on the release of Extracurricular Season 2 by taking a look at its season 1's schedule.
The series went into production in late spring or early summer of 2019 and finished filming on August 6th, 2019.
Assuming Extracurricular gets the go signal for season 2 and start filming before the year ends, then there's a chance we could see its new episodes around the 3rd to 4th quarter of 2021 or early 2022.
Extracurricular follows Ji-soo, an academically achieving high school student who lives a double life to pursue his dreams of going to a University.
Ji-soo works as a security service provider for an illegal prostitution business. Things escalated quickly after Gyu-ri found Ji-soo's business phone and blackmails him.
Season 1 ended in a cliffhanger leaving Ji-soo in a "bloody situation" after Ki-tae stabs him multiple times when he found Min-hee's phone covered in blood in Ji-soo's possession.
Detective Lee has also started suspecting Ji-soo and the members of the Social Issues Research club for involvement in illegal activities, despite Mr. Cho vouching for Ji-soo's character describing him as a good student.
Towards the end of season 1, the detective arrived at Ji-soo's empty apartment and found traces of blood. Although she didn't catch Ji-soo there, he's certainly up for more troubles if the show gets renewed for season 2.
Nothing has been confirmed yet but we're expecting major cast members to reprise their roles and continue the show's narrative if season 2 gets the green light.
They are Kim Dong-hee as Oh Ji-soo, Jung Da-bin as Seo Min-hee, Park Joo-hyun as Bae Gyu-ri, Nam Yoon-soo as Kwak Ki-tae, Choi Min-soo as Lee Whang-chul, Park Hyuk-kwon as Cho Jin-woo, and Kim Yeo-jin as Lee Hae-gyoung among others.
Renewal of Extracurricular for season 2 is still pending. Trailers often drop a month before a show's release, so if our speculations are right, it will still take a couple of months (or a year) before we get to see season 2's official trailer. That is if the show secures the renewal before the year ends.
Here's Extracurricular season 1 trailer for the meantime.
