Since Exploding Kittens debuted on Netflix, there has been constant speculation about when Season 2 may be released.
The adult animated comedy, which is loosely based on the popular board game of the same name, is the most recent animated adaption to be released on streaming services, joining titles like Tomb Raider, Cuphead, and Castlevania.
The show centers on two cats who are ensnared in a never-ending battle because the spirits of God and the Devil reside within them.
Has Exploding Kittens Been Renewed For Season 2?
Netflix is currently streaming Exploding Kittens Season 1, but no statement regarding Season 2 has been made.
On Rotten Tomatoes (RT), the show has a 72% rating. Critics have criticized it for its poor writing, strange tone, and a plot that, in their opinion, is not compelling enough to watch.
This critical response might give the impression that Season 2 has little possibility of success, but that might not be the case.
In the end, reviews are just one consideration a streamer like Netflix would make when approving a Season 2, and it is performing better with viewers (sitting at an 82% Audience Score on RT).
Around the world, there is a passionate following for the board game Exploding Kittens. According to Built In LA, it raised $8.7 million during its funding period, making it the most-backed project in Kickstarter history. Additionally, since 2015, it has sold over 18 million games globally.
These are amazing figures, and Netflix will consider the series a success if even a small percentage of the Exploding Kittens fan base gives it a try.
Although no plans for a Season 2 have been revealed to the public, as was previously indicated, it appears that the show’s creative staff is operating under the presumption that a second set of episodes will eventually be produced.
In the stunning conclusion of Season 1, it was revealed that Devilcat and Godcat would soon become parents to small, devout kittens.
Following a season of conflict, Devilcat uses her power to unleash her fury on humanity and then gives birth. The season concludes with Devilcat giving birth to her kittens and Godcat saving the family that had abducted the two of them—and consequently, all of humanity.
There is little doubt that this new existence as parents is being considered as the possible subject of a second season.
Perhaps in order to teach their progeny their heavenly wisdom (both good and evil), the two godly cats will need to put their claws away for a while and learn to co-parent these new fur kittens, putting aside their disagreements.
