The filming for the second season of 'The Umbrella Academy' began in June 2019 and it has been noted that it takes around 18 months to release each series. Going by that, it seems like the second season will drop sometime around the end of 2020.

Regarding newcomers for the second season, Netflix has announced the fresh arrival of a trio in the series and all of them will be series regulars. Ritu Arya is all set to play the role of Lila, a chameleon who can either be seen as a brilliant or criminally insane as the situation requires her to be. Yusuf Gatewood will play the role of Raymond who is said to possess the power to disarm anyone just by the power of his looks. Finally, Marin Ireland will play the role of Sissy who is described to be a no-nonsense mom from Texas who got married young for all the wrong reasons. Apart from that, the entire Hargreeves family will obviously make a comeback and it includes Tom Hopper, David Castañeda, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Robert Sheehan, Aiden Gallagher, and Ellen Page.

Showrunner Steve Blackman shared some details about the season 2 plot and we are going to tell you everything here. There was a picture shared on the official Instagram page of 'The Umbrella Academy' that looks like the script of the first episode that is titled 'Right Back Where We Started'. The name definitely sounds like a spot-on choice, given how the season finale panned out. The first season adapted the majority of the comics from the first volume and a little bit from the second volume. In an interview with Den of Geek, Gerad Way said, "When all said and done there are eight graphic novels planned total. We're two series ahead of the show and I think right now there's only been a couple of things used from Dallas' so I think if there's a potential season two you would see some things potentially from 'Dallas.'" In the season finale, the apocalypse actually happened and it destroyed the world but The Umbrella Academy escaped. Now, since they have years ahead of themselves to prepare them for the apocalypse, they must team up together to save the world from its impending doom.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, showrunner Steve Blackman revealed what are his plans for the show. Gerad Way already explained that he plans to release eight more volumes and Blackman also has already prepared an outline for the major plot points.

The comic release of 'The Umbrella Academy' does not follow a regular schedule. The first comic was released way back in 2007 that consisted of two volumes titled Apocalypse Suite and Dallas. The third and the latest volume of comics is Hotel Oblivion. Since then, no new volume has been released as of now. The comics are written by Gerad Way, who is also a member of the band 'My Chemical Romance'. The band split in 2013 but he has remained very occupied with his solo work. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Way said that he is planning to release eight more volumes and hopes that the comics will stay ahead of the show.
