This Turkish drama series had people talking about its excellent, and artistic approach to drama.
Ethos (Bir Başkadır) is a Turkish Netflix original series recognized as a true gem by those who found it. The Turkish series features a unique way of storytelling, intelligently crafted and connected with intricate details that celebrate life, relationship, differences, and healing. The show dropped on Netflix in November 2020, and not many people have discovered it yet. Let's find out what's next for the series.
It's been a couple of years since Ethos dropped on Netflix, but there is still no news about its renewal. We know that Netflix often evaluates a show's performance during its first 30 days on the platform before deciding whether to renew or not (unless they preorder the episodes.) However, it has been a while, and Netflix does not seem interested in giving the show another order. The streaming giant has been investing in a lot of Turkish titles lately. Netflix announced in March 2020 that they are coming up with six more projects out of Turkey, including the renewal of The Gift for season 3. Sadly, there is no news about Ethos coming back. Ethos had a generally positive perception from viewers. Medium describes the series as "radically different from all the other Turkish dramas." Hopefully, the positive reviews convince Netflix to give us more of the series.
The show's renewal status is still pending, so there is no release date for season 2 yet. Ethos premiered on Netflix on 12 November 2020.
Ethos tells the story of different characters coming from different walks of life, all of them somehow connected through a part-time cleaner named Meryem. Meryem hails from a conservative family who lives on the outskirts of Istanbul. After experiencing fainting spells, Meryem seeks the help of psychologist Peri. Educated, wealthy, and secular, Peri comes from an extremely different background from Meryem and holds prejudice against openly religious people. The series also introduced us to different characters, who all together showcase the diversity of Turkish society. If the show gets renewed for season 2, we are expecting a similarly intelligent and tasteful approach for future episodes. With how the story is presented in season 1, we would not be shocked if season 2 will introduce us to a new set of characters as we chronicle their complex yet intertwined life stories.
The show is yet to secure a renewal from Netflix for season 2, so the full cast members are still not confirmed. Since Ethos is unlike any regular Turkish television show, we also couldn't say if the season 1 cast will likely return should the show get renewed. Nevertheless, we are dropping the names of the season 1 cast members here to acknowledge their great work. They are Öykü Karayel as Meryem, Fatih Artman as Yasin, Funda Eryiğit as Ruhiye, Defne Kayalar as Peri, Settar Tanrıöğen as Ali Sadi Hoca, Tülin Özen as Gülbin, Gökhan Yıkılkan as Hilmi,Alican Yücesoy as Sinan, Bige and Önal as Hayrünnisa. Joining them are Derya Karadaş as Gülan, Öner Erkan as Rezan, Nesrin Cavadzade as Melisa, Nazmi Kırık as Civan, Gülçin Kültür Şahin as Mesude, Özge Özel as Canan, Esme Madra as Burcu, Aziz Çapkurt as Ramazan, Cemre Zişan Sağbır as Esm, Göktuğ Yıldırım as İsmail, Nur Sürer as Feray, Taner Birsel as Orhan Nihal Koldaş as Sinan's mother, and Sinan Tuzcu as actor,.
