'Erased' Season 2: Everything We Know So Far

The anime ended half a decade ago but has recently gathered new fans through Netflix. Is it returning for more?

'Erased' Season 2

'Erased,' also known as Boku dake ga Inai Machi or The Town Where Only I Am Missing, is a mystery, supernatural anime that aired in 2016. The anime is produced by A-1 Pictures and Fuji TV's Noitamina. It aired in Japan from January 8 to March 25, 2016, with a simulcast streaming on Crunchyroll, Daisuki, Funimation, and AnimeLab. It is based on the manga series of the same name written and illustrated by Kei Sanbe. Half a decade after the anime finished airing, 'Erased' gathered new fans after Netflix picked it up for streaming. The streamer has been focusing on improving its line-up of anime titles in the past few years. Does this give 'Erased' a bigger chance to get a new season? Let us find out.

Will There Be 'Erased' Season 2?

As of now, it's uncertain if 'Erased' will be renewed for a second season. It's been seven years since the anime ended, and there's no clear indication if it will ever get a follow-up season in the future. Even though the anime found a new fan base after moving to Netflix, it's still unclear if that fan base is enough to convince producers to greenlight a new season. The original manga series concluded in April 2016, and both the anime and live-action film adaptation were released in March of that year. According to Crunchyroll, only the live-action film adaptation stayed true to the manga's original ending. Nonetheless, the anime is still beloved by many.

When Will 'Erased' Season 2 Release?

There is no official confirmation for season 2 yet, so there is also no release date. Assuming that the renewed attention for the anime will help it get another season, it won't likely release at least until 2024.

What Is The Plot Of 'Erased'?

'Erased' tells the story of Satoru Fujinuma, a young man from Chiba who possesses a unique power called "Revival," which allows him to escape a life-threatening incident by getting sent back in time a few moments before it occurs. This ability lets him prevent fatal incidents from happening again. After his mother gets murdered by an unknown killer in his house, Satoru gets another chance to save his mother and also prevent the kidnapping incident that killed three of his childhood friends. Although the anime did not entirely stick to the manga's story, it had a well-rounded ending and solved all the mysteries. If a second season gets a green light, writers will have to produce a new story. Perhaps, Satoru will have a new mystery to uncover or another murder incident to prevent. Whatever it is, it will logically continue centering on his time-traveling power. The manga has a spin-off novel that explores what happened after the events of 'Erased.' It explored the killer's motives, which could also be good source material for season 2.

Who Is Cast In 'Erased' Season 2?

We are still waiting for season 2 to get officially renewed, so there is still no cast list for season 2. The cast list will depend on what the plot of the new season will be. The lead character in season 1 of 'Erased' has two different voice actors since the character gets portrayed in two different ages. That might not be the case if the anime gets a new season.

Ben Diskin voices Satoru at 29 in the English dub version, while Michelle Ruff portrays him at ten years old. Diskin is a well-known voice actor who previously worked in popular anime titles like 'Naruto: Shippûden' and 'Boruto.' Meanwhile, Ruff voiced Kaori in the science-fiction anime classic 'Akira' and Fujiko Mine in 'Lupin the Third.' The two will most likely return if 'Erased' gets a second season.
