This Netflix Original series has earned a lot of praise from both critics and audience alike and the highly anticipated second season has a release date now.
The finale of the first season kept the fans on the edge for quite some time now, the return of the show will see Alyssa is still dealing with the fallout of the traumatic events. The second season of the series will also introduce a new character called Bonnie played by BIFA-winning Naomi Ackie. Bonnie is described to be an outsider with a troubled past and a mysterious connection to Alyssa. The first season got a lot of praise from both audience and critics alike. It was aired on Netflix and Channel 4 simultaneously and it drew a pretty strong fan base from these to platforms. A premiere date for the second season has been released and we will be able to watch it from November 2019 onwards.
The reason the show performed on both the platform is that it is a co-production between the channel and the streaming behemoth. In the second season, Charlie Covell is making a comeback as the writer and the story is inspired by characters from the award-winning series of comic books by Charles Forsman. The original songs and score will again be written and performed by Graham Coxon. The first season of the series was directed by Lucy Forbes and the second season is being directed by Destiny Ekaragha.
The first season followed the story of teen runaways James and Alyssa on a darkly comic road trip, which saw them caught in a spiral of dangerous events. It is a highly praised show by the critics and they have reviewed the show saying it is "brilliant… gruesome, wickedly funny, and completely heartwarming’ and an ‘effing triumph."
Sam Wollaston from The Guardian said the first season was "a binge-worthy comedy about teen nihilists on the run’ with ‘comedy so dark that you can barely make out the comedy." We absolutely cannot wait for the second season to air and hope that you are excited too!
