The role of the White Witch in Greta Gerwig’s upcoming Netflix production of The Chronicles of Narnia has been officially assigned to Emma Mackey. 🎬🍿
Mackey and Gerwig, who previously collaborated on Barbie, are working together again on this project.
The script, which Gerwig authored and is directing, is said to be based on The Magician’s Nephew, the sixth installment in C.S. Lewis’s acclaimed trilogy. Following months of conjecture, Mackey was cast; other actresses, such as Margaret Qualley, were also considered for the prominent role.
One of the most recognizable antagonists in the series is the White Witch, also called Jadis, who is notorious for turning her enemies into stone and plunging Narnia into an unending winter. Meryl Streep, who is in negotiations to voice Aslan, may also be a part of the expanding cast, which Mackey will join.
Prior to its streaming debut, Netflix intends to offer Narnia a unique two-week IMAX theatrical run in late 2026.
After Mackey’s breakthrough performance in Netflix’s S*x Education, her roles in Death on the Nile and Barbie, and her recent starring roles in Emily and James L. Brooks’ upcoming comedy Ella McCay, the role builds on her already strong career.
