Earlier this month we reported about The Rock's latest superhero film, "Ball and Chain," and revealed rumors that Netflix is most likely to outbid other studios on the project.

Well, it' s confirmed! Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt's "Ball and Chain" is coming to Netflix!

Dany Garcia, Johnson's ex-wife and co-founder of Seven Bucks productions said in a statement via Hollywood Reporter:

“We’re thrilled to continue the evolution of our partnership with Netflix and welcome 'Ball and Chain' into the Seven Bucks universe. Our Netflix partnership is rooted in our mutual understanding that investing in the right stories with universal appeal is our number one priority. The incomparable chemistry of our leads and powerful storytelling elements will ignite fans across the globe. We can’t wait to bring this electric story to life.”

"Ball and Chain" follows the story of a bickering couple Edgar (Johnson) and Mallory Bulson (Blunt) who received superpowers from a mysterious meteor.

The couple's power will only work if the two will set aside their differences and work together as a team.

Now, that sounds like a fun way to fix marital issues, don't you think?

Anyways, the film is based on a four-part comic book of the same name by Scott Lobdell published in 1999.

Oscar nominee Emily V. Gordon will pen the script and the film will be produced through Johnson's Seven Bucks and Blunt's Ledbury Productions. These A list stars sure know how to do their business.

In a statement, Johnson shared why Netflix is the best partner for their next superhero film.

"One of our main initiatives at Seven Bucks is to continue to find the best platforms to tell stories that entertain and inspire on a global scale.

"Netflix is the perfect partner to deliver this epic superhero/romantic comedy experience alongside us, and we're excited to be back in business with the Netflix team.

"I'm also excited to not only reunite with dear friend Emily Blunt in front of the camera but to also collaborate as producing partners as we bring Emily V. Gordon's script to life," Johnson said.

Scott Stuber, Head of Netflix Film, believes that Johnson and Blunt are perfect for the role.

“Dwayne and Emily have a chemistry together that is unmatched in our business right now. They are the perfect duo to bring Emily V. Gordon’s electric superhero story to life, and take the world of 'Ball and Chain' to new heights,” Stubber said.

"Ball and Chain" is still on its early stages and both the streaming platform and the production companies have not announced a release date yet.
